Showdown week in South Australia is one of the better footy weeks on the calendar.

Port Adelaide and Adelaide. The South Australian team with over 150 years of history, and the side that should have been the first SA side into the national competition, against the side that was created from scratch to go first into the national competition in their place.

It is one of the best rivalries in the game. And, as they get set to duke it out for the 57th time against one another, the two sides couldn’t be on a more different trajectory heading into the state’s biggest game.

The Crows are low-flying and chock-full of confidence after thumping Carlton by 10 goals at the Adelaide Oval last week.

The Power are licking their wounds after being handed a reality-checking 90 point drubbing at the hands of the Bulldogs in Ballarat. Bringing their three match winning streak to a grinding halt.

It was the second biggest loss under Ken Hinkley (which happened to be the 91-point loss to Collingwood in Rd 1 this year) as the gaps between their best and worst continue to widen.

But they get a chance to bounce back in the biggest game of their season. The Power’s home Showdown, with their crowd, dressed in their famous prison bar gurnseys, It’s shaping to be must-watch television as there will be garrunteed fireworks.

On a selection front, Port should welcome back veteran Travis Boak who has been managed now for a couple of weeks. Josh Sinn could also be back, provided he ticks the boxes through concussion protocols.

We’ll wait and see if the AFL changes their minds about declaring Willie Rioli’s availability for this game too after his reported shenanigans have come to light.

For the Crows, Mitch Hinge will return from suspension, with a tough call to be made on who makes way for him after a dominant team performance last week. Youngster Sid Draper could also be brought back for his first taste of showdown footy.

For the latest team news, analysis, odds, and betting tips, check out our Power vs Crows prediction and preview below.

Port Adelaide vs Adelaide Predicted Teams

Port Adelaide Predicted Team

B: Kane Farrell, Aliir Aliir, Lachie Jones

HB: Miles Bergman, Esava Ratugolea, Connor Rozee

C: Jase Burgoyne, Willem Drew, Travis Boak

HF: Darcy Byrne-Jones, Ollie Lord, Joe Richards

F: Sam Powell-Pepper, Mitch Georgiades, Joe Berry

Foll: Jordan Sweet, Zak Butters. It means we head into Showdown 57 with the overall head-to-head even at 28 wins apiece.

The Crows are the most attacking team in the competition, and proved last week that it if isn’t their key forwards that get ahold of you, their small/ medium forwards will. Izak Rankine, Josh Rachelle, Alex Neal-Bullen, and Bean Keays combined for nine goals against the Blues. It spells trouble for the Power defence.

Port Adelaide was bullied around the ball against the Dogs in Ballarat. One might have thought that with Matt Crouch going out of the Crows midfield would see them lose an edge in the middle there, which was made up for with the added dynamism and explosion they got through the middle through the likes of Peatling and Rachele.

The Crows' defence was fantastic against the Blues. Despite having an off day against the Dogs in blustery conditions, can Mitch Georgiades continue his great form this season and cause some trouble for Jordon Butts who will back up for his second game of the season?

So much of this game will depend on ball movement, with both sides opting for control over chaos with the way they move the ball this season. The Crows are significantly quicker at moving the ball up the field though. One of the reasons they are the highest and fastest scoring teams in the comp.

While Showdowns are the type of games where form lines count for very little, It’s hard to make the case for the Power, the Crows are superior on nearly every line and across most metrics.

Betting tip: Adelaide

First Goal Prediction

Izak Rankine didn’t get to finish the last Showdown he played in because he was ironed out by Dan Houston. So… you get the sense he’s going to make his presence felt early in this one.

Doesn’t mind a goal against the Power too, averaging 2.4 goals per game over the last five matches against them.

Betting tip: Izak Rankine

Most Disposals Prediction

Jase Burgoyne was one of very few Power players who could hold their heads high on Saturday afternoon. The wingman is averaging 21 disposals per game this season and is making an impression with his clean and composed ball use.

He’s topped 20 disposals in three of his past five matches. We’re backing him to top the pops this week.

Betting Tip: Jase Burgoyne (25 disposals)

Port Adelaide vs Adelaide Match Details

Date: Saturday, May 10th

First Bounce: 8:10 PM, AEST

Location: Adelaide Oval, Adelaide

How to watch: Fox Footy/ Kayo Sports
