AFL Players to Watch - Round 16 2026

26/06/2026|Kate McCarthy|AFL Tips & Predictions

Round 16 of the AFL Season is here and while we do have the Geelong Cats, Melbourne, St Kilda, and the Western Bulldogs taking a well-earned week off over the byes, there are still plenty of stars on show this weekend.

Headline matches include a massive clash between the Brisbane Lions and Swans, a heated South Australian Showdown between Port Adelaide and the Adelaide Crows, and the high-flying Dockers hosting the Gold Coast Suns.

There are plenty of players to keep an eye on every week and Round 16 is no different.

Whether you’re searching for a ball winner of note, a goal-kicking specialist, or a tall timber primed to perform, we’ve got you covered.

For the inside lane on the best AFL bets, check out Kate McCarthy’s list of players to watch in Round 16 below.

AFL’s Best Players to Watch in Round 16

Logan McDonald - Brisbane Lions

Some forwards just love hitting the scoreboard consistently, and Logan McDonald is leading the charge for the Bloods.

The star Swan has kicked two or more goals in six of his last seven games.

Facing off against Brisbane at the Gabba, we expect him to find plenty of space early.

Betting tip: Logan McDonald to kick two+ goals.

Jagga Smith - Carlton Blues

When the Blues get rolling, young gun Jagga Smith is usually at the centre of it.

Look at the stats sheet and you will see he averages 26.8 disposals in wins compared to just 21.6 in losses.

With a five-game average of 25.8 disposals, we reckon he’ll tear it up against the Eagles at Marvel.

We think Carlton gets the job done here, meaning Jagga is a safe bet to clear his line.

Betting tip: Jagga Smith 27+ disposals.

Izak Rankine - Port Adelaide

The Showdown is always a fiery affair, and the presence of Izak Rankine makes the Crows a tough prospect for their cross-town rivals.

In his return match last week, Rankine attended 74% of centre bounces and spent 76% of the game on the ground.

Despite those managed minutes, the dynamic superstar still racked up 22 disposals.

We think his midfield clock will only increase this week, making him a major clearance headache for the Power.

Betting tip: Izak Rankine 22+ disposals.

Patrick Voss - Fremantle Dockers

The Gold Coast Suns have a lot going for them this year, but they rank dead last in the competition when it comes to defending key forwards.

Fremantle's tall timbers have been getting airborne over the last five weeks, with Jye Amiss slotting 15 goals and Josh Treacy kicking 13.

However, it is Patrick Voss who has been leading the pack with 18 majors in that stretch.

We love the look of Voss to put on a clinic against the Gold Coast this weekend.

Betting tip: Patrick Voss to kick three+ goals.
