24/09/2024|Nathan Brown|AFL Tips & Predictions

Not only will the AFL Premiership be decided this Saturday when the Sydney Swans and the Brisbane Lions battle for eternal glory on Saturday at the MCG, but so will the Norm Smith Medal.

Named in honour of the late, great player and legendary coach Norm Smith, the Norm Smith Medal is awarded to the best on ground in the AFL Grand Final.

With so many superstars set to take the field on Saturday, deciphering who is best poised to take out the 2024 Norm Smith Medal is a daunting task.

That’s why we’re here, as we’ve created this Norm Smith Medal 2024 tips and predictions guide to help all you Sportsbet punters out there separate the contenders from the pretenders.

So, who will take home the 2024 Norm Smith Medal? Well, one thing is for certain, it will once again be claimed by someone who has never won it before. Neither Sydney nor Brisbane currently have a former Norm Smith Medal winner on their lists, guaranteeing a new name a spot in AFL folklore.

For all the Norm Smith favourites, smokeys, sleepers, and under-the-radar options check out our expert Norm Smith Medal 2024 tips and predictions below.

Who Won the Norm Smith Medal last year?

Bobby Hill – Collingwood

The former Giant lit up the MCG on Grand Final Day, making a profound mark early in the game with four first-half goals.

Among a slew of big performances in big moments, Hill’s first-half exploits helped set up the game for Collingwood which saw them carry leads into the first and main break.

He finished the game with 18 disposals, five tackles, and four goals received maximum votes from the panel.

Norm Smith Medal 2024 – The Favourites

Isaac Heeney

He was ruled out of the Brownlow which led to a long and annoying night at the SCG for the Swans superstar, but the Medal he craves is his for the taking come Saturday.

Add to that, the fact he’s already been best-on-ground twice in two finals this series, which makes him one of the favourites for Norm Smith by default.

This will be his third Grand Final. Will it be third time lucky?

Lachie Neale

The Lions skipper will have a say in the proceedings this coming Saturday. How big of a say he has remains to be seen.

After guiding the Lions through a barnstorming back half of the year and three cut-throat finals to reach the Grand Final once again, Neale would dearly love to add the one thing his glittering career is missing, which is a flag.

This will be his third Grand Final too. Will it be third time lucky for him?

Chad Warner

The last time Chad Warner graced the Grand Final day stage, he was his team's best player on the day.

Too bad his team was utterly blown off the park that it’s a performance from a young player on the biggest stage that hardly gets mentioned.

Now two years on, and having elevated his game to stratospheric levels, Warner looms large as one of the players to grab the Grand Final by the horns and steer it in his team's direction.

Just as he has several times already this season, he could be saving his biggest performance for the biggest day.

Norm Smith Medal 2024 – Smokeys, Sleepers & Under the Radar Options

Cam Rayner

Cam Rayner took his moment last week at the MCG and showed the best of what he could be in the biggest possible moment.

While he has a history of being hot and cold from week to week – especially after a quiet semi-final against the Giants, Rayner showed what he could do with a few moments of sheer brilliance to ice the game.

Sitting at $21 at the time of writing, voters look for moments and patches of brilliance, and Rayner is certainly capable of producing both.

Callum ah Chee

Continues to be underrated by the competition and the footy-watching public. The reality is, the Lions aren’t back in the Grand Final without the exploits of Callum ah Chee last week.

He’s shown his versatility all year and has become Chris Fagan’s ultimate utility. He’s paying $51 at the moment, but like Bobby Hill last year, could bob up and have a profound impact on proceedings.

Brodie Grundy

While no one wants to see anyone get injured, Brodie Grundy’s smile would have gotten significantly larger when Lions ruckman Oscar McInerney was ruled out of the Grand Final.

Now set to line up against understudy Darcy Fort, Grundy has been handed an opportunity to dominate from the centre and feed the Swans' star-studded midfield all day.

At $26 at the time of writing, which will shorten as the day gets closer. After the last few years of his career and having another crack at a Grand Final, he’ll prime himself for a big day.

Norm Smith Medal 2024 Odds
