It goes from bad to worse for the Demons.

Another meek showing against the Bombers keeps the slide to 0-5 this season and extends the miserable stretch of just one win from the past 11 matches.

For all the talk of love, care, and affection for one another off the field, on the field, it seems like they hardly know each other at all.

A return to the MCG to host a match against an interstate team should be viewed as both good news and an opportunity for the Dees to potentially get things rolling in 2025. But… it might not be this week.

A meeting with Freo awaits, who have gained great momentum in their season with significant wins over cellar dwellers West Coast and Richmond - their most impressive victory being against the Dogs at home, sandwiched in the middle of all of this. Adding to this, the Dockers' record at the MCG over the past couple of seasons is impressive! They have won four of the past seven matches at the home of footy.

Can the Dees, driven by their stars, finally lift themselves off the canvas after another week of soul-searching? Or will it be ‘Wharfie time’ yet again at the G?

Melbourne vs Fremantle Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

As alluded to above, the MCG doesn’t spook the Dockers like it might other interstate clubs.

Nor does the Melbourne footy club (not that they scare anyone at the moment), having beaten the Dees on both occasions last year - including that still barely believable near triple figures result in Alice Springs- and find themselves on a four-game winning streak against the Dees.

The Dockers allowed the Tigers to hang around long enough in the Barossa last week before Josh Treacy decided to separate the game with another bag of six goals. Hayden Young also returned and reminded everyone just how good he is. He was on managed minutes last week and will likely be again this week, but he’s another weapon to add to the Dockers' engine room.

As was the returning Sean Darcy. We wait and see when Luke Jackson will be fit again and how it will look again when both of them are in the team and how it will look. (Hello, Kane.)

The Dees rank second-to-last at clearance and last at scores for. In layman's terms, It’s just a mess and has left every scratching their heads… partiucularly with some of the superstars in their current side.

It’s hard to imagine the Dees turning things around, particularly against this version of the Dockers, who are building into something pretty fun to watch.

First Goal Prediction

In his first trip back to his old home ground, it might not take Shai Bolton long to remember where the goals are. We suspect he might be the one to merely open the floodgates.

Betting tip: Shai Bolton

Most Disposals Prediction

The Dees get the ball inside their attacking 50 more than nearly every other team in the competition. The problem is, as mentioned above, they rank dead last for scores.

Expect plenty of intercept marks and then some quick hands off to their key distributors by foot. Young might play up the ground and through the middle here, so we’re looking at Jordan Clark here to go huge.

Betting tip: Jordan Clark (30 + disposals)
