This one has blowout potential written all over it.

The Giants are shaping as one of the premiership contenders this year, and the Eagles, well… they’re not even in the conversation of being competitive at the moment.

On the Eagles, they’ve had a pretty damning week haven’t they. A crushing loss in the derby followed by a week of PR damage control when it was reported that their captain Oscar Allen had met an opposition club's coach.

Add that to the constant chatter about Harley Reid and the will he/ won’t he be there. It’s tough going for the Eagles at the moment.. As it has been for the last few years.

The Giants flew out of the gates last week against the Hawks in Tassie, only to get overrun by the phenomenon that is ‘HokBall’.

They will be ruing their chance to make a statement against a fellow contender, which is why I don’t suspect they will fade out as much this week as they come up against an Eagles side already on its knees.

Adding to the Eagles tale of woe, they will be without champion defender Jeremy McGovern for a few weeks after he injured himself in the derby. Which makes this a question of Giants by how much?

GWS Giants vs West Coast Eagles Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

Despite their winless start to the season, West Coast have shown some promising signs this season. They pushed the reigning premiers at home a couple of weeks ago and the emergence of Tyrell Dewar has been a welcome sight for Eagles fans.

The Eagles are making a habit of bursting out of the blocks from the first bounce before gradually being ground down and outclassed by their stronger opposition. They now need to find a way to stay in the game for longer as they search for a breakthrough victory under coach Andrew McQualter. Which is easier said than done, especially when your next opposition is the Giants.

These two coaches should know each other well having spent time at Richmond as assistant coaches together. Despite last week's slip up against the Hawks, Adam Kingsley has got his Giants playing some good football.

This week presents a chance for all the Giants players to fill their boots a bit. Jesse Hogan matching up on Harry Edwards screams a bag of goals to the reigning Coleman Medallist. Jake Stringer will also be licking his lips here to get his Giants career off and rolling on the scoreboard after making his debut last week.

Expect the Giants to win comfortably here. The Eagles have shown patches that they might be good enough at their best to cover the line but boy, it will take something mighty from them.

First Goal Prediction

We’re looking at the Giants forward line here, given the quality of their talls and the inexperience of the Eagles tall defenders.

Number one pick from a couple of years back Aaron Cadman has strung together a good opening three weeks and in each game has made a habit of getting on the scoreboard early.

With Harry Edwards likely to take Hogan, it means he could get the Gibney matchup, or Ryan Maric. He should win the matchup comfortably, starting with the first goal of the day.

Betting tip: Aaron Cadman

Most Disposals Prediction

No Eagles player is in the top 50 disposal winners across the competition in the opening month of football.

In fact, Liam Baker is the first Eagle on the list coming in at number 60 as the highest possession-winner for the Eagles this year.

Giants ball-magnet Lachie Whitfield has continued on his merry way distributing the ball this season, averaging 31 disposals per game this year so far off the half-back line, But I’m looking at the centre of the ground at Tom Green who has come back and just gone bang with two 30+ possession games on return from a calf injury and there is no reason why he can’t do the same against this Eagles midfield.

Betting Tip: Tom Green 35+disposals
