GWS Giants vs St Kilda Saints Prediction - Round 24 2025
21/08/2025|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions

The Giants made their pre-finals statement last week up on the Coast.

Not only did they beat the Gold Coast (again), but they also fired a warning shot to the rest of the competition. After last year’s dramatic straight-sets exit—which cut them deep—they’re back with a point to prove. This time, they’ve got the on-field form to match their intent.

They’ll host the Saints at home in the final round of the season, and a win will lock in a home final for week one of September. They can’t drop out of the top eight, but they know a loss could mean hitting the road for four straight weeks. That’s a scenario they’ll be desperate to avoid.

St Kilda, on the other hand, won’t feature in September action this year, but they’ve finished the season strongly—rattling off four straight wins (even if a few were unconvincing).

And in some ways, they might’ve already banked the biggest win of the week—maybe even the year—with the announcement on Monday that Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera has signed on for two more years. It’s been a while since Saints fans had a moment like that—probably not since their 10-game winning streak back in early 2004, their Grand Final appearances in the 2010s, or, if you want to go all the way back, 1966.

While the Saints are now looking ahead to next year and preparing for what could be a bumper trade period, the Giants have a serious task in front of them. They know they let a golden opportunity slip last season, and with a list this strong, they can't afford to waste it.

At the selection table, GWS will be boosted by the return of key defender Jack Buckley, while dangerous small forward Brent Daniels is also given a chance to play his first game since Round 14—it’d be just his seventh appearance for the season.

Unfortunately, Jesse Hogan will miss again as he continues to manage a foot issue. The club is giving him a two-week block to get right for finals.

Over at the Saints, there were no fresh injuries from last week’s win over the Bombers, and with four straight wins behind them, don’t expect many (if any) changes to their lineup.

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Giants hold sway in the recent head-to-head battles with the Saints, with three wins from the past five matches. The meeting earlier this season during Gather Round at Norwood Oval was close early before the Giants flexed after halftime to keep the Saints at bay.

The Giants have finished the year off strongly. Over the past five weeks, they have had the third-best offensive profile in the competition… and that’s without Jesse Hogan being much of a factor over the past month.

Defensively, it’s been a little wobbly without Buckley, but with him back now, and against a decent enough side to give a taste of what Finals footy will be like (Thanks Ross), it should hold them in good stead.

Can NAS win them another game off his own boot?

First Goal Prediction

When there’s a game that the Giants know they need to win, one man usually stands up and ensures that it happens.

That’s the skipper, Toby Greene. So often, he sets the tone with his performances and delivers big when his team needs it. Just like we think he will here with the first goal.

Most Disposals Prediction

Before they splashed the cash on NAS, and are set to splash the cash on TDK and Leek Aleer… Do you remember how much cash they offered Finn Callaghan??

Which he went and knocked back!

The young star has gone to another level this year. We’re backing him to go big here.. Just to rub it in.
