GWS Giants vs St Kilda Prediction - Round 2 2026

19/03/2026|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions

GWS & St Kilda are both looking to bounce back in this Round 2 clash after disappointing defeats last week. Saints will be out to cause an upset at the Giants home of ENGIE Stadium, which has been something of a fortress in the last couple of seasons.

After an impressive Opening Round victory against Hawthorn, GWS were brought crashing back to Earth in a 134-53 pummelling at the hands of Western Bulldogs last Saturday.

However, it’s an even more alarming situation down at Moorabbin, with the highly touted St Kilda recording back-to-back losses against Collingwood and Melbourne, to start the season.

The Saints and Giants met twice last season, seeing GWS secure a 110-82 victory at Gather Round and back it up with another win at ENGIE Stadium in Round 24.

Injured superstar Tom Green was a point of difference in both of those victories for GWS, totalling 61 disposals, 39 contested possessions, 22 clearances and 19 score involvements across the two matches in 2025.

He’ll be dearly missed from Saturday’s fixture, and his absence opens the door for St Kilda to claim their first win over GWS since 2023.

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera has been heavily tagged in the opening two rounds, which has successfully stifled St Kilda’s attack, the Giants will be looking to follow this defensive blueprint.

For Saints to succeed, they need to adjust their system to free-up Nasiah, or find new points of attack while the defence is pre-occupied with stopping the man they call Messiah.

Can the Saints adapt this week and secure their first win of the season?

Or will their 2026 campaign start 0-3?

GWS Giants vs St Kilda Prediction and Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Saints were shaky and defensive in the Opening Round, though they looked to grow in confidence by Round 1 and were attacking more successfully and more frequently.

Following this logic, they should be able to make another step forward and bring even better footy in Round 2.

But you are what your record says you are and they’re currently sitting at 0-2 with a tough test against the formidable GWS club.

Scoring 100+ last week was a nice sign for Saints attack and Max Hall is worth the price of admission when ‘Nasiah the Messiah’ is being tagged, but they desperately need to secure victory this week to avoid losing touch with the top sides.

GWS were impressive in the Opening Round against Hawthorn, before an atrociously bad performance against the Dogs in Round 1.

Their best and worst has always been poles apart, they’ve been consistently inconsistent in years gone by, which is something coach Adam Kingsley would be keen to remedy.

Melbourne tagged Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera, Collingwood tagged him... It seems pretty obvious that GWS will repeat the dose.

St Kilda knows this is coming and Ross Lyon simply must have a plan to counteract this.

In the scheme of the season, this is a huge match for both clubs, with the loser having their premiership credentials seriously damaged.

Head-to-head prediction: GWS Giants by 3 points.

First Goal Scorer Prediction

Toby Greene remains the most dangerous weapon in the Giants' forward half, both with and without the ball.

He has a history of stepping up when the Giants have their backs to the wall and this occasion feels like it’s made for him.

Coming off a heavy loss, expect the skipper to lead from the front and look to assert his dominance at home early in the piece.

Betting tip: Toby Greene.

Most Disposals Prediction

Jack Sinclair is currently one of the most consistent ball-winners in the league, averaging 33 disposals across the first two games of 2026.

He was particularly involved in Round 24 last year against the Giants, racking up 34 disposals and a whopping 12 handballs. With GWS missing the prolific Tom Green, Sinclair’s ability to generate territory from half-back makes him the standout choice for the most disposals on Saturday.

Betting tip: Jack Sinclair.
