The Big, Big Sound is sounding again; there is life back in the Giants' season.

While you can only beat what’s in front of you, the Giants were impressive against a bitterly disappointing Carlton at Marvel Stadium last week. Led by skipper Toby Greene, they got their season back on track.

Now at 6-5 and barely holding onto a spot in the top eight, this week's clash against Richmond marks the beginning of a three-week stretch where the Giants can build momentum and set themselves up for the second half of the season with some softer opposition on the horizon.

Richmond experienced some cruel injury blows on Friday night as their inconsistent season continued, but that is to be expected, especially with a very young and rebuilding team. They did well to stay with the Bombers until three-quarter time before falling away.

Still, Tigers fans would be buoyed by some of the positive signs they are seeing week to week, and the possibility of some more experienced players returning soon could instill greater optimism as they head into the second half of the year.

It might prove to be difficult this week against a Giants side that could be sensing a live kill as they look to bank some handy mid-season wins.

On the selection front, the Giants are hopeful they will regain Josh Kelly, but he will need to pass a fitness test. Many Giants will be hoping to return before the bye in Round 16.

There will be at least three changes for the Tigers, with Toby Nankervis returning after a rest. Number one pick Sam Lalor will miss some time due to an injured hamstring, and Thomson Dow will also be sidelined with an injured kneecap.

Tyler Sonsie did his chances of a recall no harm with another dominant display in the VFL, while tall forward Mykelti Lefau could also be a candidate to return after his second game back from an ACL injury and could provide rest for one of the younger tall forwards if needed. Spearhead Tom Lynch could also return if he passes through concussion protocols successfully.

For the latest team news, analysis, odds, and betting tips, check out our Giants vs Tigers prediction and preview below.

GWS Giants vs Richmond Predicted Teams

GWS Giants Predicted Team List

B: Connor Idun, Sam Taylor, Harry Himmelberg

HB: Lachie Whitfield, Jack Buckley, Lachie Ash

C: Xavier O’Halloran, Callan Ward, Josh Kelly

HF: Harvey Thomas, Aaron Cadman, Darcy Jones

F: Callum Brown, Jesse Hogan, Toby Greene

Foll: Kieren Briggs, Toby Bedford, Tom Green

Int: Cody Angove, Leek Aleer, Jake Riccardi, Joe Fonti, Jacob Wehr

Richmond Predicted Team List

B: Nick Vlastuin, Ben Miller, Campbell Gray

HB: Tom Brown, Luke Trainor, Nathan Broad

C: Sam Banks, Kamdyn McIntosh, Hugo Ralphsmith

HF: Jack Ross, Tom Sims, Seth Campbell

F: Rhyan Mansell, Tom Lynch, Steely Green

Foll: Toby Nankervis, Jacob Hopper, Tim Taranto

Int: Kane McAuliffe, Maurice Rioli, Kaleb Smith, Tyler Sonsie, Jonty Faull

GWS Giants vs Richmond Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Tigers hold sway in the recent head-to-head battles with the Giants, winning six of the last ten encounters, dating back to Grand Final Day in 2019.

Look for the Giants' speed of ball movement to be on show once again here. They rank fifth in scores from Turnover and are seventh best at getting the ball from the defensive 50 to the attacking 50. The Tigers, as expected, are languishing at 17th for both of these metrics.

Coleman Medallist Jesse Hogan has started to find his groove in recent weeks and would be setting himself for a big day against Ben Miller and youngster Luke Trainor.

The Tigers, as they have in recent weeks, will be gallant and be in the game for about two-and-a-half to three quarters, before we think the Giants flex their muscles and run over the top of them.

Betting tip: Giants

First Goal Prediction

Back at Giants stadium, means that the Giants goal songs are back. Hosting Richmond could point to the DJ having a busy day too.

We’re looking at Irishman Callum Brown at the Giants front end after his three-goal haul against the Blues last week. He’ll get the crowd going with his Irish jig.

Betting tip: Callum Brown

Most Disposals Prediction

Toby Greene was an absolute beast in his milestone game against the Blues. Putting himself in the midfield in the absence of Finn Callaghan and leading all-comers on the stat sheet.

With Callaghan unavailable again, we’re looking at Toby to go big once again.

Betting tip: Toby Greene 25+ disposals

GWS Giants vs Richmond Tigers Match Details

Date: Saturday, May 31st

First Bounce: 4:15 PM, AEST

Location: ENGIE Stadium, Sydney

How to watch: Fox Footy/Kayo Sports
