GWS Giants vs North Melbourne Kangaroos- Round 22 2025
07/08/2025|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions
The GWS Giants will be looking to bounce back in a big way after last week’s shocking loss to the Bulldogs.

Sure, you could argue they were due for a slip-up after six straight wins—but it’s the way they lost that raises the biggest red flags heading into the final three rounds of the season.

A 15-goal defeat has left them clinging to eighth spot. Sitting at 13-7, they’re now tied with both Hawthorn and Gold Coast, and just one win ahead of the Bulldogs. It’s turning into a real game of musical chairs to lock in a spot for September—and any stumbles from here could see the Giants left without a seat when the music stops.

North Melbourne, meanwhile, looked much better last week against the Saints—although, to be fair, it wasn’t hard to improve after copping a 100-point thumping and having a bloke kick 11 goals on you.

They had a few chances late in the game to pinch it, but ultimately fell short, cementing a bottom-four finish for the sixth straight year.

The Giants will be desperate to bounce back and claw back some of the percentage they lost last week. But can the Roos rise to the challenge and pull off a major upset?

At selection, the Giants get a big boost with skipper Toby Greene returning from suspension. However, they might be without key forward Jesse Hogan, who’s still managing a lingering foot issue. Young gun Toby McMullin is done for the season after suffering a serious ankle injury against the Dogs, so he’ll need to be replaced.

For the Roos, there's major doubt over star goalkicker Nick Larkey’s fitness—he might not play again this season, which would be a huge blow. Mid-season draftee Zach Banch will have to pass a fitness test after being subbed out last week with a rib injury.

Geordie Payne is a strong chance to debut, likely replacing the suspended Paul Curtis. Ruckman Tristan Xerri will be back too, having served his one-week suspension.

GWS Giants vs North Melbourne Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Giants hold sway in the head-to-head over the Roos, winning three of the past five matches, including a drawn game in that sequence.

Despite last week's hiccup, the Giants have become a scoring juggernaut over the past six weeks, ranking fifth in the competition for ‘points for’ and are the fifth-best ball movement team in the competition over this time.

The Roos' defence has continued to leak all season. While they will likely not have to deal with the threat of Jesse Hogan, they possess many avenues to the goal with Cadman, Brown, Gruzewski, Jones, and the returning Toby Greene capable of hurting you in a big way if you give them the opportunity.

You sense the midfield power of Green and Callaghan will be too much for North Melbourne, and the sheer amount of ball movement power coming into their brittle backline will be too much for them to handle. Giving the Giants the lay-up win.

First Goal Prediction

Young superstar Aaron Cadman has really come into his own as a gun key forward in the back half of this season.

2.8 goals per game over the past five weeks (largely thanks to a bag of six against the Cats), but he’s found his range well here. We’re backing him for the first one on Sunday.

Most Disposals Prediction

It’s been an uncharacteristically down couple of weeks for young gun Finn Callaghan. 21 and 23 possessions from his last two weeks, well before his season average of 28 disposals per game.

We’re backing him to bounce back in a massive way this week, though.

Betting tip: Finn Callaghan 30+ disposals
