The big dance is here!

Geelong and Brisbane will trade blows for the first time ever in an AFL Grand Final.

The Cats - who are aiming for a third premiership under Chris Scott - took care of Hawthorn in reasonably emphatic fashion on the back of captain Patrick Dangerfield.

For Brisbane, they have again taken the long way to the big dance.

The Lions were handed a lesson by Geelong in the qualifying final only a few weeks ago, but will have learned some lessons from that encounter and have won well twice since.

Here’s how the decider will go down.

Geelong vs Brisbane Prediction

Saturday, September 27, 2:30pm AEST - MCG

The past four contests between these two have yielded three wins for Brisbane, including two in Victoria. But in their most recent clash, only three weeks ago in the first final, Geelong won. They ended up running away with it actually.

Injury issues plague both teams, with Lachie Neale and Jarrod Berry dented and Tom Stewart confirmed out via concussion protocols.

A decision on Ruckman Rhys Stanley might also take all week - just as Chris Scott likes it.

Both teams’ game styles are not that far apart. Here are some numbers to pump up each club.

No one gets the ball inside forward fifty more than Geelong per game; they’re the most dangerous kicking team and retain possession from those kicks more than anyone else. They win more ground balls than anyone and win the most offensive one-on-ones in the AFL.

Geelong’s attacking numbers should scare you.

For Brisbane, it’s a more methodical approach.

Plan A is death by a thousand cuts… or, more accurately, 100+ uncontested marks.

The Lions have only been beaten three times since the beginning of 2024, when they have taken 100+ uncontested marks. That’s the key. Everyone knows it, but not everyone can stop it.

Individually, Hugh McCluggage will again clash with Oisin Mullin. The Irishman kept the All-Australian Lion to 14 disposals in the qualifying final. He’s had 70 since.

Cam Rayner and Mark O’Connor will again collide after the last highly dramatic and controversial clash.

Logan Morris, Ty Gallop, and a resting ruckman (Fort or McInerney) will aim to compete in the air, while the speed demons in Lohmann, Cameron, Ah Chee, Rayner, and Zac Bailey will do the rest. Bailey will need attention.

Geelong seems more ready, more healthy, and more able to claim the 2025 premiership… but these Lions have been counted down time and time again. And, on every single occasion they have, they have responded.

Time will tell whether they can do it one more time and go back-to-back.

Head-to-head prediction: Cats by 13 points

Best bet: SGM - Max Holmes 23+ disposals, Callum Ah Chee anytime goal & Josh Dunkley 8+ tackles

Norm Smith tip: Tom Atkins (Geelong)
