The Suns return home to the Gold Coast to host an injury riddled Sydney Swans.

The Suns missed a golden opportunity last week to create a piece of club history and go outright top of the AFL ladder at the top of a round for just the second time in history. After inexplicably losing to Richmond and seeing their unbeaten start to the season come to an end.

At their coaches favourite place - Marvel Stadium, of all places, And casting a shadow of the early season goodwill they had banked.

The Swans, besieged by an injury crisis, have looked like a shell of the side that steamrolled its way to a Grand Final last year, and have felt the pinch in their forward line as the unavailability of their stars has hit hard.

They rallied late to challenge Port, with Aaron Francis, the unlikely goalkicker, coming on as sub and kicking three second - half goals.

Swans coach Dean Cox declared that the Tom McCartin playing forward experiment was over and he will return to his natural home in defence after another week of struggles up forward.

The Swans are desperate for a win and can ill afford to wait for reinforcements. Can they pull one out of the fire, against the odds at a ground they have enjoyed success at in the past?

Gold Coast vs Sydney Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

While the Swans will have not many nice things to say about Cararra because the last time they were there, they left with one of their brightest stars- Erroll Gulden, ruled out for a chunk of the season, it has traditionally been a happy hunting ground for them.

The Swans have won six of their past seven home-and-away matches on the Gold Coast, and have won three of their past four overall.

Despite the fumble against the Tigers, the Suns game is in pretty good shape. They are among the high-scoring and most attacking teams in the competition, and their defence is standing strong.

They will no doubt be heading into this game with a point to prove against the undermanned Swans.

The Swans are searching for answers in their front half. Surely Aaron Francis can’t be the main man up forward again? It might be time to put Issac Heeney back in the forward line for a few weeks. Get him leading up at the ball and attacking and being a focal point. At least till the cavalry comes back.

They’d love to see Chad Warner get going too after an underwhelming start to the season by his lofty standards.

It’s hard to see the Swans kicking a score here. Just too many outs in the front half, and we suspect that Dimma will have his side wound up after dropping a game that they really shouldn’t have.

Betting tip: Gold Coast.

First Goal Prediction

Suns forward Ben Long is in the midst of a career-best stretch. Currently rated the number one forward in the game by Champion Data, Long has kicked multiple goals in all but one game so far. He’s our pick for first goal.

Betting tip: Ben Long.

Most Disposals Prediction

One of the Suns recruits of the season John Noble, along with Daniel Rioli, drive so much of the way that the Gold Coast play.

Averaging 24.6 disposals per game, and coming off 27 touches against the Tigers last week, we’re backing him to top the charts this week.

Betting tip: John Noble (25+ disposals).
