Geelong Cats vs GWS Giants Prediction

Sunday afternoon footy sees us back down the highway with Geelong hosting the well-traveled GWS Giants. The Cats are probably still catching their breath after playing in one of the games of the season last Saturday night against Collingwood. Some of them might still be thanking the football gods that Jack Crisp’s kick drifted to the right, allowing them to hold off the fast-finishing Pies.

Others might still be thanking and worshipping Patrick Dangerfield. We’re still not quite over what that guy did in the last quarter last week to get his team over the line.

Now, they have the chance to bump Hollywood out of their home ground and return to playing football on it. They host a GWS Giants side whose season has hit the skids a bit after a hot start, suffering three losses in a row, the latest coming at the hands of their cross-town rivals, the Swans, in what was a spiteful ‘Battle of the Bridge.’

Can they find something on yet another game away from their home base to reignite their season? They enjoy coming down to GMHBA Stadium and will have awesome memories of the last-gasp, brick-wall-like efforts from Leek Aleer during their last match there last season.

The Cats will need to make two enforced changes after Rhys Stanley injured his hamstring and Lawson Humphries entered concussion protocols following the win against Collingwood. They will assess superstar defender Tom Stewart and his dodgy knee to see if he is fit to play.

The Giants will be sweating on the fitness of tagger Toby Bedford, who was the victim of a Lewis Melican hit that resulted in the Swan’s suspension in the derby. He was cleared of concussion but suffered blurred vision and will need medical clearance. The Giants will also be monitoring big man Kieran Briggs, who hurt his ankle in the game and will be tested.

For the latest team news, analysis, odds, and betting tips, check out our Cats vs Giants prediction and preview below.

Geelong vs GWS Giants Predicted Teams

Geelong Predicted Team

B: Jack Bowes, Tom Stewart, Connor O’Sullivan

HB: Zach Guthrie, Mark Blicavs, Mark O’Connor

C: Oisin Mullin, Max Holmes, Jhye Clark

HF: Ollie Henry, Shannon Neale, Shaun Mannagh

F: Patrick Dangerfield, Jeremy Cameron, Brad Close

Foll: Sam De Koning, Bailey Smith, Tom Atkins

Int: Tyson Stengle, Ollie Dempsey, Mitch Duncan, Ted Clohesy, Oli Wiltshire

GWS Giants Predicted Team

B: Harry Himmelberg, Sam Taylor, Connor Idun

HB: Lachie Ash, Jack Buckley, Lachie Whitfield

C: Jacob Wehr, Finn Callaghan, Callan Ward

HF: Josia Delana, Aaron Cadman, Darcy Jones

F: Toby Greene, Jesse Hogan, Harvey Thomas

Foll: Kieran Briggs, Tom Green, Toby Bedford

Int: Jake Stringer, Callum Brown, Toby McMullin, Xavier O’Halloran, Cody Angove

Geelong vs GWS Giants Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Giants currently dominate the recent head-to-head battles with Geelong, winning three out of the last five matches, including the past two.

Remarkably, the Giants have also won their last FOUR matches at the Cattery, which is nearly impossible to achieve in the modern era that Geelong has experienced since 2006.

This situation makes analyzing form lines and trends for this game somewhat challenging.

The Giants have seen their typically potent attack stymied recently, averaging just 62.6 points during this three-game losing streak, a significant drop from the 97.4 points they averaged over the season's first month.

Historically, the Cats' defense has been strong against the Giants, despite the recent head-to-head results. They have only conceded triple figures to the Giants once in their entire history.

The Giants will have confidence knowing they have succeeded down the highway several times before, but we believe the Cats are performing well enough to break the trend. Especially if Danger says ‘not on my watch’ again.. the Cats should win this one comfortably.

Betting tip: Geelong.

First Goal Prediction

Last year’s rising star Ollie Dempsey keeps soaring and elevating his game to dizzying new heights.

One of the game's best two-way runners, he’s gotten under the guard of the opposition so often and pops up in the goalsquare often. He’s made a habit of popping the first goal through this season having done it a few times already. We’re picking him to go again here.

Betting tip: Ollie Dempsey.

Most Disposals Prediction

Giants half-backer Lachie Ash is having a career-best season. While he has started routinely racking up the ball against all opposition, he has never hit the 30 disposal mark against the Cats. In fact, he’s only topped 25 touches against them once.

But, averaging 30.6 disposals through his past five matches this season, we’re backing him for a career first on Sunday at the Cattery.

Betting tip: Lachie Ash (30 disposals).

Geelong vs GWS Giants Match Details

Date: Sunday, May 11, 2025.

First Bounce: 3:20pm AEST.

Location: GMHBA Stadium, Geelong.

How to watch: Channel 7, Fox Footy/Kayo Sports.
