Fremantle Dockers vs Collingwood Magpies Prediction

09/05/2025|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions

If a week is a long time in footy, the Fremantle Dockers would have wanted this week to be anything but that and just fly by.

What an awful display that was last Friday against the Saints. Completely unacceptable on almost every front.

They got nothing from their much vaunted midfield, losing the clearance count 22-50 and the forward line hardly got a look in because the ball was hardly there. The Dockers kicked a record-equalling ninth-lowest score in club history, including a record third lowest score of just 1.1(7) to halftime.

It was truly a grim display. The type of display that prompts a “bring your mouthguards to training boys” discussion, and turns the pressure on the coach up from a light simmer to white hot.

All in all, it was a week that Freo would love to forget quickly (If they will be allowed too by their fans and media). But they will need to move onto the next one as they prepare to host a rampaging Collingwood at Optus Stadium on Thursday night.

The Pies, fresh off going down to the Cats in what will be one of the games of the season, lost zero admirers on Saturday night. In fact, they probably gained some after how quickly they all got to their record-breaking teammate Jack Crisp after his set shot after the siren for a fairytale win drifted wide.

With a five-day break, the Pies have flagged as many as five changes to its lineup as they look to manage their ageing stars throughout the season. The Pies held a trio of players of out their VFL clash on Sunday given the short turnaround and It’s been reported that draftee Charlie West could make his debut.

All eyes will be on how hard Justin Longmuir swings the axe after that debacle at Marvel. One forced change will need to be made with superstar Hayden Young re-injuring his hamstring and is now set for another extended stint on the sidelines. But who else will be made a scapegoat?

For the latest team news, analysis, odds, and betting tips, check out our Dockers vs Pies prediction and preview below.

Fremantle vs Collingwood Predicted Teams

Fremantle Predicted Team List

B: Luke Ryan, Alex Pearce, Karl Worner

HB: Jordan Clark, Brennan Cox, Corey Wagner

C: Jeremy Sharp, Caleb Serong, Matt Johnson

HF: Michael Fredrick, Luke Jackson, Shai Bolton

F: Sam Switkowski, Josh Treacy, Jye Amiss

Foll: Sean Darcy, Andrew Brayshaw, Will Brodie

Int: Heath Chapman, Isaiah Dudley, Quinton Narkle, Patrick Voss, Murphy Reid

Collingwood Predicted Team List

B: Jeremy Howe, Billy Frampton, Brayden Maynard

HB: Josh Daicos, Darcy Moore, Dan Houston

C: Patrick Lipinski, Nick Daicos, Jack Crisp

HF: Lachie Schultz, Tim Membrey, Beau McCreery

F: Bobby Hill, Charlie West, Lachie Sullivan

Foll: Darcy Cameron, Ned Long, Harry Perryman

Int: Mason Cox, Ed Allan, Isaac Quaynor, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Oleg Markov

Fremantle vs Collingwood Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

Remember what happened the last time these two sides played?

Collingwood had the game won, only to be met by a late Dockers flurry, a controversial free kick for ‘not giving the ball back’ and a clutch kick from Dockers skipper Alex Pearce to see the game finish as a draw.

The Pies still hold sway in the recent head-to-head, winning three of the past five clashes. Even with two of those wins coming at the MCG, and the Dockers at Optus Stadium is a very different prospect to the Dockers away from home, The Pies are still fancied heavily here.

Further, Travelling, and Optus Stadium holds no fears for this Collingwood team, winning six of 11 matches played at the venue.

Their game, both offensively and defensively could not be in better shape, and they proved last Saturday night that a game with them in it is never truly over until the last seconds have ticked down.

It’s poles apart from the Dockers who after starting the year as a potential flag contender, are sitting mid table for both offence (11th) and defence (13th).

A lot of this one will rest on team selection, and just how many older players/ first-choice players Collingwood decide not to bring over to Perth coming off a five-day break. Fremantle is averaging only 1.45 goals per game more at home than away this year and have performed significantly better at Optus Stadium this year as opposed to away from home.

You’d expect the Dockers response, but you’d be hard-pressed to overlook Collingwood here.

Betting tip: Collingwood

First Goal Prediction

Despite being one of the most potent and offensively sound teams in the competition, Collingwood has opened the goal-scoring only three times so far this season. However, we feel that changes this week, with a former Docker, fresh off a game back from a hamstring injury, set to return to his goalkicking ways and early-season form. Lachie Schultz, let's go.

Betting tip: Lachie Schultz

Most Disposals Prediction

Looking squarely at the Dockers engine room to respond here after last week's pasting.

Andrew Brayshaw had a rare off game, but he does love a big occasion against the Pies. He’s averaged 29.6 disposals in his last five matches against them, dating back to 2022. He’ll be leading from the front.

Betting Tip: Andrew Brayshaw (30 disposals)

Fremantle Dockers vs Collingwood Magpies Match Details

Date: Thursday, May 8th

First Bounce: 8:10 PM, AEST

Location: Optus Stadium, Perth

How to watch: Channel 7, Fox Footy/ Kayo Sports
