It’s a NSW battle for supremacy in the finals once again, as the Swans and the Giants prepare to face off in a final for the fourth time in nine years.

The Swans have been the pace setters for all of the year, securing the minor premiership, while the Giants came late with a bullet to lock in a top-four spot.

The Battle of the Bridge has become one of the spiciest rivalries in the game. From the on-field biff to the shade thrown on social media, this one has all the elements to deliver.

Sydney Swans vs GWS Giants Preview

The Swans got the better of the Giants on both occasions this season, putting close to 100 points on them each time.

In both of those matches, Errol Gulden led all players on ground in Disposals with Chad Warner also playing a key role in the front half.

Coleman Medal winner Jesse Hogan was kept relatively quiet in both matchups with Callan Ward being the player that did most damage for the Giants.

But despite the in-season dominance against their cross-town rivals, the Swans are yet to beat the Giants in September, adding another intriguing layer to an already fascinating game.

Key Players to Watch

Issac Heeney

He’s found his form again and looks ready to deliver a massive month of footy for his team.

For much of the season, Heeney had stood at the front of the pack as one of the best players in the competition and favourites for the Brownlow Medal before he was ruled ineligible.

He basically won them the game against Collingwood on his own with his ridiculous last quarter to secure the minor premiership and has really started hitting top form again.

He might have saved his best form in his most complete season till last.

Chad Warner

He’s the Swans’ X-Factor who will be causing Adam Kingsley many a headaches in the leadup to Saturday’s game.

Mainly because there are so many places that Warner could line up and cause so much damage.

Rewarded with his first All-Australian selection along with his fellow fab three members Heeney and Gulden, Warner has the capabilities to be a game-breaker in a matter of minutes.

If you’re a Giants fan, firstly you’re praying that Toby Bedford is fit to play because he makes your team better. Secondly, you seriously consider sending Bedford to Warner to quell his influence.

Whoever ends up going to him, it’s one you need to get right.

Tom Green

The young bull keeps finding ways to elevate his game. Now it’s at a point where Tom Green is the leader of the Giants' engine room.

Going up against a strong Swans midfield brigade, Green might be the one that cops the tag from Swans tackling machine James Rowbottom.

He’s been the ball magnet all year who’s become more damaging as the year has gone on.

If he’s the one that gets the Rowbottom matchup and then can break it, it will be a big part of why the Giants can win.

AFL Finals Sydney Swans vs GWS Giants - Who Will Win?

It just screams a belter of a match, doesn’t it?

Local derby, great weather forecasted in Sydney. Yes, there’s some conjecture about the timeslot and when this game has been scheduled but it’s going to be a magnificent spectacle and advertisement for the game in New South Wales.

A big final in a packed stadium.

Although Sydney finished the season as minor premiers, their recent form against top-eight teams has been less convincing.

Although they’ve won their last three games, these victories came against lower-ranked opponents, and there are concerns about their ability to handle the pressure of finals. The Swans have struggled in clearances and tackling pressure, ranking poorly in these key metrics. This could be problematic against a GWS Giants team that, despite a recent loss to the Western Bulldogs, has been one of the form teams in the competition in the latter half of the season.

The Giants’ midfield, led by Josh Kelly and Tom Green, has been dominant, and their ability to win contested possessions could prove crucial. With Sydney showing signs of complacency and GWS having a stronger recent record against top teams, the Giants are well-placed to cause an upset.

This match is expected to be closely contested, but the Giants’ recent experience and prolonged form give them a slight edge.

Prediction: GWS Giants by eight points

Betting tip: Total game points – Under 172.5
