Collingwood Magpies vs West Coast Eagles Prediction - Round 16 2025
25/06/2025|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions
Collingwood is back at Marvel Stadium for a second consecutive week, this time hosting the embattled West Coast Eagles on Saturday night.

The Pies wasted no time in returning to their ladder-leading, premiership favourites' form last week - easily taking care of business against St Kilda.

They did keep the Saints hanging around for two and a half to three quarters before putting the game to bed early enough in the last quarter and cruising to a comfortable win.

They roll into this week now to host the Eagles. Should they win, they could move a whopping 10 points clear in first position at the top of the ladder.

The Eagles had the bye last week, which meant they didn’t lose! It still would have been a heavy week at Laithlain with the news that champion defender Jeremy McGovern was forced to Jeremy McGovern retire on medical grounds.

While it would have been a stress-free weekend for Eagles fans, no doubt, coach Andrew McQualter would be spending time thinking about how to get more growth from his side in his first year in the top job.

Their last start against Carlton, they were blown away in the first quarter, which prompted the coach to say on live TV that they were “pathetic”, which they were. One thing that McQualter and Eagles fans will be looking for in the second half of the season is the competitiveness that they started to see in patches before the bye, along with further implementation and application of the game plan that will serve the Eagles well as they continue to develop.

The Pies will need to make two forced changes at the selection table, with Beau McCreery and Billy Frampton suffering injuries against the Saints, causing them to miss a few weeks each. Collingwood has already confirmed that young forward Charlie West will make his AFL debut after a string of great form in the VFL.

Defender Brayden Maynard is fighting to be fit after missing a few weeks with a foot injury, but he might be given another week to recover.

At the Eagles, they have lost skipper Oscar Allen for the season, succumbing to another knee injury, which paves the way for Archer Reid to return up front. Brady Hough will make his return after missing the Carlton game through illness, while key defender Harry Edwards will face a fitness test after finishing the Carlton game with ice on his hamstring, but he should be ready to go.

Collingwood vs West Coast Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

Historically, these clashes have been great contests, with the past 10 head-to-head matches being split at five games apiece.

Collingwood holds sway with the recent results, winning three of the past five.

One of the funniest and most puzzling results in recent memory remains the Round 4 2022 win that the Eagles had over Collingwood at Marvel Stadium. It’s a result that still stands out like a sore thumb when you marry up both teams' formlines.

It’s 1st vs 18th here.

You get the sense that the Eagles will fire their best shot, but the Pies will either choose to be ruthless or cruise through in second or third gear.

Their (Collingwood's) only realistic objectives for this game would be to secure the win early and get through unscathed.

First Goal Prediction

What a career Brody Mihocek has put together.

Recruited originally as a defender has become a reliable presence in the forward line for almost 10 years now. A premiership player, the 32-year-old plays his 150th game this weekend. We’re backing him to mark the occasion with the first goal of the night.

Most Disposals Prediction

Marcus Windhager tried to tag Nick Daicos… It didn’t go so well for him as he collected yet another 30 touches and a goal.

We’re sure he’ll get attention, but we’re equally as sure that he will just keep finding the footy. And lots of it.
