Carlton Blues vs North Melbourne Kangaroos Prediction - Round 15 2025
19/06/2025|Josh Jenkins|AFL Tips & Predictions
Super Saturday begins at the MCG with Carlton hosting North Melbourne.

It’s the second double-up for the Blues in a row, but the first time this matchup has occurred at the home of football since 2004! And for the Roos, who rarely play at the G these days, it will be their second trip back there in five weeks — with the memory of their drought-breaking win against the Tigers still fresh.

The Roos have returned from their two-week excursion to Western Australia and were desperately unlucky not to come away with two wins, as their last-quarter fightback against the Dockers just fell short.

The Blues have taken advantage of their favorable draw after the bye week, winning against both Essendon and West Coast, but despite the victories, they have been largely unconvincing.

They played one quarter of excellent football against Essendon and held on for dear life, then repeated that performance against the Eagles. They surged ahead early with a seven-goal-to-one first quarter before effectively winding down to play the rest of the game at a reduced pace.

Was it smart? Was it satisfying for the Blues fans to witness yet another uninspiring performance despite the win? These are just two more of the many unanswerable questions surrounding the Blues this year.

Still, you can only beat who is in front of you, and Carlton has a golden opportunity in their double-header against the Roos to even the ledger at 7-7 and propel themselves into the final stretch with some momentum.

However, they are likely to enter the Roos game missing some key players. They lost Sam Walsh before the Eagles match, and during the game, they also lost Charlie Curnow before halftime - subbed out due to calf tightness — while second-gamer Hudson O’Keefe injured his hamstring.

Curnow will be given a chance to prove his fitness, but the Blues will likely play it safe with their star player, especially considering the quick turnaround between games this week and next.

The Blues will also likely be without spearhead Harry McKay again, which could open the door for Harry Lemmey to make his long-awaited debut. Father-son talent Ben Camporeale is also pressing his case with another strong performance at the VFL level.

For the Roos, they won’t feel pressured to make any unforced changes after a positive couple of weeks. However, promising father-son player Jackson Archer completed his first game with limited VFL minutes last weekend and will be considered if they want to bring him straight back into the senior team. Midfielder Will Phillips continues to push for a return to the AFL side with another impressive performance at the lower level.

Recalling their last meeting earlier this year on Good Friday, the Blues convincingly defeated the Roos, raising questions about the direction of the Roos and whether Al Clarkson was the right man to lead them.

Since then, despite only adding two more wins to their tally, they have shown signs of improvement. Can they serve up some revenge for that early-season humiliation and extinguish any faint glimmer of hope left in the Blues’ season? Let’s wait and see!

Carlton vs North Melbourne Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Blues have all the running when it comes to the recent head-to-head against the Roos, winning their past five matches.

But here comes the glimmer of hope for North and their fans. Both the Blues twin towers Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay have combined for 29 goals in the past five matches against the Roos and neither of them will likely be on the ground on Saturday.

The Roos have tightened their defence in the past five weeks and rank sixth for points against — chalk and cheese to the start of the season when they were conceding nearly 100 points a week for fun.

The watch will be on the Blues to see if they can sustain their barnstorming first-quarter form that they have shown over the past fortnight and replicate it for a bit longer than just one quarter.

Defence has remained a strong suit for the Blues this year. While they have restricted their opponents to low scores, the defensive integrity of the team remains a question. Particularly against sides that can break away quickly off halfback.

It’s set to be another intriguing battle between the ruckmen Tom De Koning and Tristan Xerri. De Koning got the better of Xerri earlier in the season and as one of the form rucks in the competition, the Roos big man will be determined to even the ledger and get one back on the superstar Blue.

The Roos would fancy themselves big time here, but the Blues do like playing at the G this year… half their wins have come there. They should be good enough to get it done.

First Goal Prediction

In a mid-season shakeup from Michael Voss, Mitch McGovern has returned to the front half of the ground where he initially made his name. Against the Eagles last week, He kicked three goals in a game for the first time since Round 22 2019.

Likely to be the main man down there this week with the big boys Harry and Charlie, He’s our pick to hit the scoreboard early for the Blues

Most Disposals Prediction

He’s not the only Blue who has taken time to build into the season, But youngster Ollie Hollands has gotten better for the Blues with every passing week.

Starting to find the ball more and more, we’re tipping a career-high disposal count for the Blues’ number 4.
