Brownlow Medal 2024 Preview & Predictions

23/09/2024|SB Staff|AFL Tips & Predictions

It’s the AFL’s night of nights where the cream of the crop of the competition gathers at Crown Palladium for the 2024 Brownlow Medal count.

This year marks 100 years since Charles Brownlow first won the award, and it promises to be a historic night on several fronts.

After Swans star Isaac Heeney got suspended and threw betting markets into chaos, the field reset itself, and now the 2024 Brownlow Medal count is set to be one of the most hotly contested counts we have ever seen.

Some contenders are chasing their second and third Medals respectively, while other perennial contenders are tipped to poll extremely well and claim their first major gong.

But who will take home the 2024 Brownlow Medal?

For all the Brownlow favourites, smokeys, sleepers, and under-the-radar options, check out our expert Brownlow Medal 2024 tips and predictions below.

Brownlow Medal 2024 – The Favourites

Patrick Cripps

The Blues skipper is the favourite to claim his second Charlie after a stunning season.

While the Blues faltered towards the end of the season, Cripps maintained his level of excellence. Historically, it’s when Carlton has been struggling is where Cripps has claimed the bulk of his career votes.

How many votes he gets in that final round might determine if he walks away with a medal or not.

Nick Daicos

After being robbed by a knee injury of a certain medal last year, Nick Daicos is back among the contenders to win the award in just his third year.

He rarely had a quiet game, and there won’t be many, if at all Collingwood players taking votes off him.

Expect to hear his name a lot.

Marcus Bontempelli

Is 2024 finally the year of the Bontlow?

We don’t quite want to say that if he doesn’t salute this year, it might never happen, but he’s given himself his best shot this year with the year he’s put together.

All those times we thought that he’d miss, he’d go out and be best on ground.

Adam Treloar might take a few votes off him towards the end, but the season he’s put together will see his name prominent till very deep in the count yet again.

Lachie Neale

Just like Brisbane started to get rolling a quarter of the way into the season, so did their skipper Lachie Neale.

Neale could become just the fifth player ever to win three Brownlow Medals should he top the count again this year.

While a slow start is expected, Neale is a regular vote-poller and will build into the count as the season builds on. Especially when they get into Brisbane’s big winning run.

$8 seems like incredibly good value at the moment.

Brownlow Medal 2024 – Smokeys, Sleepers, and Under the Radar Options

Zach Merrett

Sustained excellence from the Bombers skipper all year.

He’s sure to get votes when the Bombers win games, and he’s a chance to poll some even when they lose.

There won’t be many taking votes off him so expect him to easily top Essendon’s count. A placing might not also be too much of a stretch considering the year he’s had.

Errol Gulden

With Heeney ruled out, Gulden seems like the next Swan most likely to win it.

The question will be how many votes will he get taken off him by his mates Isaac and Chad.

He’d be a good value option to top the Swans count with Heeney rubbed out.

Jason Horne-Francis

He might not win the thing, but if you’re looking for a roughy to top Port Adelaide’s count or even place, here’s one for you.

He’s only missed the two games early on: He’s been prominent in every single one of Port’s wins. The way he plays attracts the umpires' eyes. I’d be looking at him.

Caleb Serong

Appears certain to top the Dockers count. Expect it to be him and Hayden Young to jostle over the majority of the Dockers' major votes.

He’s just claimed his second club best and fairest. He could claim a placing here too after a strong count last year.

After some extra insight ahead of the AFL's night of nights?
