Super Saturday begins in the Sunshine State, with the Brisbane Lions hosting the GWS Giants.

It has become one of the old-fashioned ‘eight-point games,’ and a win here has unexpectedly become crucial for both teams.

The Lions have only two wins from their past five matches and lost focus against the Crows, effectively eliminating themselves from the contest at Adelaide Oval.

The Lions' troubles extend beyond just their wayward goalkicking; 0.8 in the last quarter is diabolical, and they urgently need to tidy up their forward entries, which seem to be at the root of many of their problems in recent weeks.

The Giants remain a difficult side to assess. At 7-6, they’re in the top eight, but their inconsistencies from week to week, especially recently, have led some experts to rule them out of both premiership and finals contention. They arrive in Brisbane knowing they need to claim a scalp to prove to themselves, and to many others (some who picked them for the premiership this year), that they remain among the contenders.

They won’t need to look further than their last encounter for motivation. Remember that Semi-Final? The Giants were 44 points ahead but then came to a standstill and were overrun. Will Ashcroft went berserk, and Joe Daniher kicked that goal from the boundary line to send the Lions to the Preliminary Final in dramatic circumstances.

On the selection front, there could be significant inclusions for the Lions, including defender Brandon Starcevich, who has finally been cleared to play his first game in nearly three months after a concussion in round one. Big man Sam Day also needs to pass a fitness test to reclaim his spot in the side.

Ty Gallop impressed on debut, but it’s expected that first-choice ruck Oscar McInerney will regain his position if his body is close to 100%.

For the Giants, skipper Toby Greene should be okay after being subbed out against the Power due to a hip/glute complaint. Rising defender Leek Aleer is also a 50/50 chance to play because of a back issue.

However, in good news, the club is confident that star defender Finn Callaghan will return from a shoulder injury to bolster the on-ball brigade. Youngster Cody Angove, who has impressed since his debut, has unfortunately been ruled out for the rest of the season with a back injury and will need to be replaced.

For the latest team news, analysis, odds, and betting tips, check out our Lions vs Giants prediction and preview below.

Brisbane vs GWS Giants Predicted Teams

Brisbane Predicted Team List

B: Ryan Lester, Harris Andrews, Dayne Zorko

HB: Noah Answeth, Jack Payne, Darcy Wilmot

C: Zac Bailey, Hugh McCluggage, Jarrod Berry

HF: Charlie Cameron, Eric Hipwood, Kai Lohmann

F: Callum ah Chee, Logan Morris, Sam Day

Foll: Darcy Fort, Josh Dunkley, Lachie Neale

Int: Will Ashcroft, Levi Ashcroft, Cam Rayner, Jaspa Fletcher, Brandon Starcevich

GWS Giants Predicted Team List

B: Connor Idun, Sam Taylor, Jacob Wehr

HB: Lachie Ash, Jack Buckley, Lachie Whitfield

C: Harry Himmelberg, Finn Callaghan, Josh Kelly

HF: Harvey Thomas, Aaron Cadman, Darcy Jones

F: Callum Brown, Jesse Hogan, Toby Greene

Foll: Nick Madden, Toby Bedford, Tom Green

Int: Joe Fonti, Xavier O’Halloran, Toby McMullin, Jake Riccardi, Brent Daniels

Brisbane vs GWS Giants Prediction & Betting Tips

Head-to-Head Prediction

The Lions have enjoyed this matchup in recent times, winning seven of the last 10 matches against the Giants head-to-head.

It is interesting to note though that two of the Giants' three wins against the Lions have been up at the Gabba.

Both of these sides match up evenly with the way they like to score from turnovers and move the ball from their back half. The Lions should have the edge in the midfield, especially given how depleted the Giants’ engine room is at the moment.

The Giants have proven they are still dangerous though, with Adam Kingsley happy to keep mixing and matching with the magnets that he has.

The Lions should be too good at home though.

Betting tip: Lions

First Goal Prediction

Cam Rayner was part of the issue last week for the Lions with a couple of wayward shots at goal, but his impact on the game, and this season was still big for Brisbane.

He’s kicked eight goals in the past five weeks, as part of his 13 already for the season. We’re backing him to get the home side off to a fast start.

Betting tip: Cam Rayner

Most Disposals Prediction

The Lions engine room has been getting it done, despite that not translating to results on the scoreboard recently.

Skipper Lachie Neale has struggled against the Giants in recent times, only averaging 22 disposals per game against them, which is low compared to his lofty standards as a dual Brownlow Medallist.

We’re backing him to lead the charge in a big way with a best-on-ground performance.

Betting tip: Lachie Neale 30+ disposals

Brisbane Lions vs GWS Giants Match Details

Date: Saturday, June 14, 2025

First Bounce: 1:20 PM, AEST

Location: The Gabba, Brisbane

How to watch: Fox Footy/ Kayo Sports
