AFLW Tips & Predictions Round 7

10/10/2024|SB Staff|AFL Tips & Predictions

The arrival of AFLW round 7 means we have entered the final month of the regular season.

The last-minute scramble for finals places and top four spots as well as minor premiership pushes, start now.

AFLW Round 7 presents a unique occurrence as no members of the current top 8 are scheduled to face each other. While this could very well lead to a slew of lopsided results, it could also provide some season-changing upsets.

Will the established form lines of season 2024 hold? Or will one or two unexpected results send a tremor up and down the AFLW ladder? Let’s find out.

For the latest analysis, odds, news and more, check out our expert AFLW round 7 tips and predictions below!

Adelaide Crows vs Melbourne Prediction

Wednesday, October 9, 7:45pm AEDT – Norwood Oval

These two sides are currently stuck in a head-to-head deadlock of five wins a piece across the 10 matches they’ve played in the AFLW.

Melbourne enter this one off a rare win, but their mounting injury crisis is cause for concern and we can’t see them making it two on the trot against a Crows side who are five from their last six.

The players to watch here are Kate Hore, Caitlin Gould, Dannielle Ponter and Chelsea Randall.

Prediction: Adelaide Crows.

Betting tip: Kate Hore and Daninielle Ponter anytime goal.

Port Adelaide vs Collingwood Prediction

Thursday, October 10, 7:45pm AEDT – Alberton Oval

A historic moment in the AFLW here, as this marks the first time Port Adelaide and Collingwood have ever faced off in the women’s competition.

With no H2H record to go off, recent season form is all we have. The Pies are in the pits, languishing in 17th, while Port powered to their first set of consecutive wins in their history. Inaugural hat-trick loading? We think so!

Prediction: Port Adelaide.

Betting tip: Over total match points.

Western Bulldogs vs Essendon Prediction

Friday, October 11, 7:15pm AEDT – Mission Whitten Oval

More history and another example of how rapidly the women’s game is growing. The Western Bulldogs and Essendon have also never squared off, but that all changes on Friday night at Mission Whitten Oval.

Essendon’s resilience has grown in recent weeks, and they’ll look to cling to their top eight spot here against a Dogs side who struggle to create inside the opposition 50.

Prediction: Essendon.

Betting tip: Bulldogs to score less than 20 points.

Hawthorn vs West Coast Eagles Prediction

Saturday, October 12, 12:05pm AEDT – Kinetic Stadium

The Hawks are, as their name suggests, flying at the moment. The Eagles will be looking to join them in the skies and make a charge for the top eight, which they currently sit on the precipice of.

They will remain grounded however if they keep conceding punches in bunches. They’ve developed a dangerous habit of allowing teams to score multiple goals in a row against them, something they’ll need to rectify if they want any chance of upsetting the high-flying Hawks.

Prediction: Hawthorn.

Betting tip: Winning margin – Hawks 1-24.

Richmond vs Geelong Prediction

Saturday, October 12, 3:05pm AEDT – Swinburne Centre

Essentially a must win for the Cats here, with a loss all but ruling them out of the finals race.

Luckily for them Aishling Moloney and Jackie Parry appear to be hitting top form at the right time and could be set to rescue last season’s preliminary finalists just in time.

It’ll be a tall order to topple the top four Tigers, and we aren’t tipping too many upsets this week, but with their postseason lives on the line, there’s plenty of value to be found in backing Geelong.

Prediction: Geelong.

Betting tip: Aishling Moloney first goal scorer.

Brisbane Lions vs Gold Coast Suns Prediction

Saturday, October 12, 5:05pm AEDT – Brighton Homes Arena

As big a mismatch as you’ll find in the AFLW this week or any other, this season’s M1 derby is an alarmingly one-sided affair.

At the time of writing the 18th placed Gold Coast Suns are paying a whopping $13.00 to upset the second-placed Brisbane Lions.

We can’t see it happening in our books, but we can see the Lions notching quite a total in this one. They’ve found their scoring boots in recent weeks, averaging over 10 goals per game in the last month. Look away now Gold Coast fans, this one could get ugly.

Prediction: Brisbane Lions.

Betting tip: Winning margin – Brisbane 40+

Fremantle vs Carlton Prediction

Saturday, October 12, 7:15pm AEDT – Fremantle Oval

The last time these two sides faced off it actually resulted in an all too rare draw. 32-32 the scorecard read at the final siren, although we are doubtful it will be that close here.

Freo are on a top four charge and are short favourites to take another step towards their goal against the Blues on Saturday night.

Clearance queens Hayley Miller, Gabby Newton and Aisling McCarthy will once again be key, and Carlton will have their work cut out for them controlling the contest and ultimately winning this game.

Prediction: Fremantle.

Betting tip: Hayley Miller and Gabby Newton 15+ disposals.

North Melbourne vs Sydney Swans Prediction

Sunday, October 13, 1:05pm AEDT – North Hobart Oval

The Roos are still top of the pops and that’s where they’ll stay, if odds and form and to be believed.

Their elite players around the ruck have ensured their mids have had best use all year and this combo is verging on unstoppable.

Kim Rennie and Emma King are the main culprits for North’s sustained excellence there, look to them to once again facilitate another assured Blue and White win.

Prediction: North Melbourne.

Betting tip: Emma King 20+ disposal.

St Kilda vs Melbourne Prediction

Sunday, October 13, 3:05pm AEDT – RESA Park

Can the Saints go marching to two straight round 7 wins? They kick started AFLW round 7 with a comfortable win over the wayward Giants and will be looking to double dip against the Dees.

They’re odds on to do just that and continue their top eight quest. We will be backing them accordingly here.

Prediction: St Kilda.

Betting tip: Under total match points.

GWS Giants vs Adelaide Crows Prediction

Sunday, October 13, 5:05pm AEDT – Henson Park

Wrapping up AFLW round 7 is yet another seemingly lopsided contest. This will be both the Crows and the Giants second game of round 7, meaning it will be important to see if anyone picks up an injury or suspension in the games prior.

As things stand though, the Crows are easy tips, with the Giants on a torrid run of four consecutive defeats heading into this AFLW round 7 clash.

Prediction: Adelaide Crows.

Betting tip: Winning margin – Adelaide 25+
