And then there was just one.

A massive round of upsets has left us with just one undefeated team in the AFLW this season. No surprises for guessing who it is… they’re just about lapping everyone for a second time at this point.

It was a round that proved the gap between the best teams and the rest is finally starting to close. Unfortunately, it was also a round where the league’s injury toll began to mount.

Ellie Hampson, Montanna McKinnon, Nat Grider, and Caitlin Gould are just a few of the big names who went down with injuries over the weekend.

Now, as we move into the middle quarter of the season, the race for spots in the top eight is heating up. And Round 6 might be where some separation starts to happen — with some juicy matchups lined up for what’s set to be a blockbuster weekend of footy.

Let’s lock in.

Collingwood vs Hawthorn Prediction

Saturday, September 20, 12:35pm AEST - Victoria Park, Melbourne

That was awesome from Collingwood.

We were all wondering what it would take to stop the Swans — and not for the first time this year, Sam Wright came up with the perfect plan to shut down one of the competition’s pacesetters. Only this time, the Pies got the job done!

The Pies held the highest-scoring team in the competition goalless for three quarters! At the other end, Kalinda Howarth was electric, Ash Centra was everywhere, and Collingwood controlled the match from start to finish.

Now back at Vic Park, they face the Hawks, who are reeling from their first loss of the season. They’ll need to find more avenues to goal beyond McDonagh and Bodey up forward.

All-Australian Aileen Gilroy should return this week after narrowly missing last round due to a hamstring strain. She’ll add a crucial link to the Hawks’ midfield/half-back line — but conversion in front of goal remains a concern.

Head-to-head prediction: Hawks by 15 points

Betting tip: Mikala Cann 15+ disposals & anytime goal

Port Adelaide vs Geelong Prediction

Saturday, September 20, 1:05 pm AEST - Alberton Oval, Adelaide

Is it too early in the season to declare this one an early Elimination Final?

The Cats have won two on the bounce, convincingly, and are starting to look like the well-oiled team they have been in recent seasons. While the Power have won two of their past three and are looking like they are starting to get it together this season after their run to the final four last year.

Their win over the Dees was awesome. The constant, desperate pressure is a hallmark of their game.. And they made the Demons crack under it!

At 2–3 apiece, this clash becomes a must-win in the context of finals. Both teams boast dynamic scoring duos: Parry + Moloney for the Cats and Houghton + Tahu for the Power. Midfield ascendancy will decide this.

Head-to-head prediction: Cats by 5 points

North Melbourne vs Carlton Prediction

Saturday, September 20, 2:35 pm AEST - Arden St Oval, Melbourne

17 and counting..

The Roos' stranglehold on the competition got even tighter when they brushed the Lions away in the Grand Final rematch. The first team ever to win the immediate return clash in the 10 seasons of AFLW.

They copped a couple of nasty injury blows during the game, but if they can channel the healing powers of Jassie Garner, who was supposed to miss four weeks with an ankle injury, but came back after one week out to star in a superhuman effort.

The Blues produced a second-half blitz to run over the top of the Suns at home. They have become, far and away, the most improved team in the competition and continue to impress.

Head-to-head prediction: Roos by 10 points

Betting tip: SGM: Lily Goss 20+ disposals, Sophie McKay 2+ goals & Ash Riddell anytime goal

Fremantle vs Essendon Prediction

Saturday, September 20, 3:05 pm AEST - Fremantle Oval, Fremantle

That’s two bad ones in a row for the Bombers.. And the last one was really bad.

Despite some injury disruptions, it was poor discipline that hurt them most against the Saints. They conceded more goals from 50m penalties (2) than they kicked themselves (1).

Fremantle finally broke through for their second win in a slog of a Western Derby, keeping their derby streak alive. Hard to gauge too much from that game due to the wild conditions, but Mim Strom was a force and looms as key again.

Freo need not only wins, but percentage boosts if they want to surge back into contention.

Head-to-head prediction: Dockers by 21 points

Betting tip: Ash Brazill 18+ disposals

Sydney vs GWS Giants Prediction

Sunday, September 21, 1:05 pm AEST - Henson Park, Sydney

It’s time for the ‘Battle of the Bridge’ at Henson Park. And thankfully, this one is looking a touch more evenly matched this week than it was just a week ago.

The Swans were brought back down to earth after a shock loss to the Pies, made to lament a slow start. While the Giants finally got to sing the song after a game again, recording their first win in over a calendar year.

The post-game scenes and comments from Giants coach Cam Bernasconi said it all - that one last week meant plenty for the Giants.

It means they go into the game against their crosstown rivals not totally on the canvas and ripe for the picking, but the Swans will be smarting after getting their colours lowered last week. All over the ground.

We’re expecting a swift response… and, possibly, because they seem to put one up every week at this point, another goal of the year nomination?

Head-to-head prediction: Swans by 34 points

Betting tip: Ally Morphet 20+ disposals & anytime goal

Melbourne vs West Coast Prediction

Sunday, September 21, 1:05pm AEST - Casey Fields, Melbourne

Daisy Pearce returns to Casey to take on the Dees for the first time.

It’s incredible what she has been able to do with the Eagles since taking over. They didn’t adapt well to the atrocious conditions served up for the derby last week and would be disappointed to let it slip.

But they get a chance to come up against a Demons side, one that the coach knows intimately, and try to take down one of the contenders this year.

Melbourne were wasteful last week but stormed home late against Port. Kate Hore continues to shine — lifting her team week after week.

It will be interesting to see how much off the Eagles game is matched by what Daisy has learned from long-time Dees coach Mick Stinear, but the Dees should be too strong all over the ground here.

Head-to-head prediction: Dees by 25 points

Betting tip: Paxy Paxman 25+ disposals

Western Bulldogs vs Brisbane Prediction

Sunday, September 21, 3:05pm AEST - Whitten Oval, Melbourne

Tough watch for Bulldogs fans.

The Dogs blew a golden chance against GWS, and their forward woes continue. Ranked 18th in scoring, they’re struggling for structure and confidence.

Brisbane are hard to read — yet to win at home, but undefeated on the road. With a soft draw ahead, the Lions are poised for a surge back into the eight.

Head-to-head prediction: Lions by 31 points

Betting tip: Courtney Hodder 15+ disposals & 2+ goals

St Kilda vs Richmond Prediction

Sunday, September 21, 3:05 pm AEST - RSEA Park, Melbourne

It finally came together for the Saints.

Some Wardlaw wizardry in her milestone game helped the Saints romp to a massive win over the Bombers in a performance that would have allayed some frustrations for coach Nick Dal Santo.

The challenge now is simple. Produce that consistently. And, what an opportunity to try flex again, coming up against the winless Tigers.

The Tigers remain the only winless team in the competition after they succumbed to Geelong last week, but there are no causes for panic or radical change at Punt Rd, with the club re-signing coach Ryan Ferguson mid-week.

For a team with Brennan, Conti, Hosking, McKenzie, and Shevlin in it, they should be better than where they are.

It’s a big day for the Saints too, as they will once again put Mental Health on the big stage with the AFLW side to play their first ‘Spud’s Game’ at home at Moorabbin.

Head-to-head prediction: Saints by 20 points

Betting tip: J’Noemi Anderson first goal

Gold Coast vs Adelaide Prediction

Sunday, September 21, 5:05pm AEST - People First Stadium, Gold Coast

Straight back to earth for the Suns.

Blitzed by the Blues in the second half and slipping toward the bottom four, this is a crucial test for Gold Coast.

The Crows, however, looked ominous against the Hawks, dismantling them with a composed kick-mark game. Ebony Marinoff was a beast — 32 disposals and 16 tackles — while Hatchard continues her strong form.

They’ll miss Caitlin Gould (wrist), but this is still a mismatch on paper.

Head-to-head prediction: Crows by 27 points

Betting tip: Danielle Ponter 2+ goals
