03/10/2024|SB Staff|AFL Tips & Predictions

Whoa! We’re halfway there! We’ve reached the midway point of the 2024 AFLW season, with more than a few teams living on a prayer.

As we all catch our collective breath, after last weekend’s men’s final, in which the Lions finally raised the flag again, it’s time to check in on the ladies’ game and its many superstars.

The AFLW will be supplying our footy fix for the foreseeable future, so there has never been a better time to read up on the women’s game.

Why not start right here with AFLW round 6? For the latest analysis, odds, news and more, check out our expert AFLW round 6 tips and predictions below!

Hawthorn vs Gold Coast Suns Prediction

Wednesday, October 2, 5:15pm AEST – Kinetic Stadium

2024 has been no good to the Goldy in 2024. They sit at the bottom of the pile and have to travel to face a high-flying Hawthorn side this week, who currently reside in fifth.

Their luck doesn’t seem to be set to change anytime soon either, with star midfielder Claudia Whitford out of this one with concussion.

The Hawks on the other hand welcome back young gun Bridie Hipwell and should be good for the win here as well as more than a few goals.

Prediction: Hawthorn.

Betting tip: Mackenzie Eardley 2+ goals.

Essendon vs Sydney Swans Prediction

Wednesday, October 2, 7:15pm AEST – Mission Whitten Oval

If their men’s side getting smoked in the AFL Grand Final wasn’t bad enough, things just get worse and worse for the Sydney Swans.

Their All-Australian ruck Ally Morphett has been ruled out of the remainder of the season with a fractured foot. They sit in 11th and are long odds to beat Essendon here.

Look to the Bombers fun forward Daria Bannister to make the most of Morphett’s absence and get on the end of second balls and kick a few snags.

Prediction: Essendon.

Betting tip: Daria Bannister 2+ goals.

Melbourne vs GWS Giants Prediction

Thursday, October 3, 7:15pm AEST – IKON Park

Not much to love here with both teams struggling so far in AFLW season 2024. Melbourne have the superior H2H record, winning their last three straight against the Giants.

They’re favourites here to make it four on the trot and we’ll be backing them to do so accordingly.

Prediction: Melbourne.

Betting tip: Under total match points.

Adelaide Crows vs St Kilda Prediction

Friday, October 4, 7:45pm AEST – Norwood Oval

The Crows will be looking to bounce back from their first loss in five matches this week, when the Saints go marching to Norwood Oval.

Still sitting snug in the top four after their narrow defeat to the Lions last time out, it’s far from panic station yet for Adelaide.

This home fixture against a St Kilda side staring down the barrel of three straight losses presents itself as the perfect remedy to return to winning ways.

Prediction: Adelaide Crows.

Betting tip: SGM – Danielle Ponter and Caitlin Gould anytime goal.

North Melbourne vs Western Bulldogs Prediction

Saturday, October 5, 1:05pm AEST – Arden Street Oval

Do not adjust your devices. Yes, there is a world where North Melbourne are top of the table.

No, it’s not the Matrix, it’s the AFLW, with North’s ladies showing their blokes how it’s done.

The Kangaroos are absolutely flying in 2024 and find themselves top of the pops at the halfway point.

They have the 13th placed Doggies crushed in every major metric, most tellingly averaging 8.2 goals a game opposed to their opponents 3.8. This one could get ugly.

Prediction: North Melbourne.

Betting tip: Bella Eddey first goal.

Richmond vs Collingwood Prediction

Saturday, October 5, 3:05pm AEST – Swinburne Centre

Another AFLW round 6 mismatch here. Richmond and Collingwood have perfectly inverted form lines.

The Tigers have won four of their last five but lost their most recent game. The Pies on the other hand have lost four of their last five but enter this one off the back of a rare win.

Richmond’s loss last time out was only a narrow one, to table toppers North Melbourne no less. We’re backing them to return to winning ways and ensure Collingwood’s form guide remains a perfect inversion of their own.

Prediction: Richmond.

Betting tip: Lucy Cronin 10+ disposals.

West Coast Eagles vs Port Adelaide Prediction

Saturday, October 5, 5:05pm AEST – Mineral Resources Park

One of the tougher to predict games of AFLW round 6 pits the West Coast Eagles against Port Adelaide.

Both are hanging around midtable, with the Eagles aiming to hang on to their place in the eight here.

Led by the exploits of Ella Roberts and Bella Lewis, the Eagles armed with a very methodical approach this year should be too good for the Power who they have a perfect record against.

Prediction: West Coast Eagles.

Betting tip: SGM - Ella Roberts and Bella Lewis anytime goal.

Carlton vs Brisbane Lions Prediction

Saturday, October 5, 7:15pm AEST – IKON Park

It looks like the good times are going to continue to roll for the Brisbane Lions in Melbourne.

A week removed from their men’s side lifting the AFL premiership cup, the ladies are all but certain of picking up a win in Victoria too. Sitting second on the ladder, they are short, short favourites to see off lowly Carlton.

Prediction: Brisbane Lions.

Betting tip: Lions 30+

Gold Coast Suns vs Essendon Prediction

Sunday, October 6, 12:05pm AEST – People First Stadium

The Suns second game of AFLW round 6 should go about as well as their first. We’re not expecting much from the Goldy girls in their second game within seven days.

Back at home, they should be able to match it with Essendon for a while, but ultimately, we’re tipping the Bombers to be the happier of the two after the siren sounds.

Prediction: Essendon.

Betting tip: Under total match points.

Sydney Swans vs Geelong Prediction

Sunday, October 6, 2:05pm AEST – Henson Park

An interesting one here, Geelong have historical results on their side against the Swans but are struggling in 2024.

They’ve got the wood over the Swans including a 102-27 mauling a few years back, but we actually like Sydney to reverse the curse here and pick up the win, as the Cats sit 15h at the moment with just the one win to show for their efforts in 2024.

Prediction: Sydney Swans.

Betting tip: Over total match points.

Fremantle vs Hawthorn Prediction

Sunday, October 6, 4:05pm AEST – Fremantle Oval

The final game of AFLW round 6 sees Freo entertain the Hawks at home on Sunday arvo.

This shapes as an epic end to the round with the Dockers sitting third and the Hawks in fifth. Both have four wins in their last five and their H2H history is also very close.

Freo have got the best of the Hawks in their recent few meetings, but not by much. We like them to continue that trend here with another close victory.

Prediction: Fremantle.

Betting tip: Over total match points.
