We have a new premiership favourite in the AFLW, and they wear blue and white. North Melbourne obliterated rivals Melbourne 50-9 last week, to move into pole position in the AFLW premiership market.

They, along with The Brisbane Lions, who bested the Crows in a thriller, are through to the preliminary finals and get to have this week off.

Melbourne and Adelaide must now fight for their AFLW lives against Sydney and Geelong respectively, who both survived last week’s elimination finals.

The Cats and Swans’ survival means we say goodbye to both the Suns and the Bombers for season 2023, who now get to enjoy their Mad Monday celebrations.

Who else will be joining in the Mad Monday festivities come the end of week two of the AFLW finals? Only two of Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne and Geelong can advance and keep their dreams of an AFLW premiership alive.

Adelaide vs Sydney Predictions

Saturday, November 18, 7:45pm AEDT – Norwood Oval

Week two of the AFLW finals gets underway with a battle of the birds as Adelaide and Sydney go head-to-head at Norwood Oval.

Despite winning the minor premiership, the Crows turned AFLW tipping comps on their head last week, as they were upset by the Brisbane Lions 39-37.

The three-time premiers will now have to take the long way if they are to secure a fourth flag.

This week they’ll come up against a Sydney side full of confidence, with Swan’s head coach Scott Gowans already asking the question “why not us?”

Why not the Swans indeed, they were electric in their 17-point triumph over Gold Coast and have momentum firmly on their side after winning their last four games straight.

The biggest spanner in the works for the Sydneysiders is an ankle injury to forward Bec Privitelli, who is likely to miss this must win match.

Adelaide will not want to be the minor premiers who went out of the finals in straight sets, so you can expect a big showing from them.

After a season of dominance, a two-point slip-up to a quality side in Brisbane, should not undermine their premiership credentials.

It will take one hell of an effort from the Swans to win this one and while we are sure the effort will be there, Adelaide are simply too strong of a side to tip against.

Prediction: Adelaide.

Betting tip: SGM – Adelaide 1-9 & Eloise Jones first goal scorer.

Melbourne vs Geelong Prediction

Sunday, November 19, 3:05pm AEDT – Ikon Park

The second elimination final of week two of the AFLW finals pits Melbourne against Geelong.

Melbourne suffered the same fate as Adelaide last week, with the weight of favouritism seemingly weighing too heavy on them.

While the Crows were only pipped by Brisbane, the Dees were demolished by North Melbourne.

The 50-9 clobbering has blown the race for the flag wide open, with many expecting Melbourne, who spent most of the season top of the table to be the ones to cruise to the title.

Now they’re in disarray and Geelong could very well be smelling blood in the water. The Cats will no doubt fancy their chances in this one after seeing how easily Melbourne were opened up last week.

If they can get off to a fast start, they have every chance of springing a major upset against the side many thought would end up hoisting the flag come season’s end.

If you’re looking for value this week, this could be the game to find it in.

Prediction: Geelong.

Betting tip: Chloe Scheer most goals.
