AFLW Tips and Predictions Finals Week 1

04/11/2024|SB Staff|AFL Tips & Predictions

Then there were eight! The 2024 AFLW regular season is run and done, and the finals are here.

North Melbourne clinched the minor premiership, while it was Essendon who clinched eighth spot and Collingwood who received the dubious honour of taking home this year’s wooden spoon.

Now that all the ins and outs of the regular season are sorted, the real fun can begin. Week 1 on the AFLW Finals will see two of the eight teams left bow out, two earn a week off and the remaining four be forced to fight for survival next week.

The stakes don’t get much higher than this, so let’s dive in. For the latest analysis, odds, news and more, check out our expert AFLW Finals Week 1 tips and predictions below.

North Melbourne vs Adelaide Crows Prediction

Friday, November 8, 7:15pm AEDT – IKON Park

Newly minted minor premiers North Melbourne kick off AFLW Finals Week 1 when they welcome the Adelaide Crows to IKON Park on Friday night.

The Roos made it through the entire season without losing a single game, only dropping points in the form of a round 2 draw against Geelong.

Since then, they’ve been nothing short of perfect, winning nine on the spin and entering Week 1 of the finals as short, short favourites for the flag.

They’re also, unsurprisingly, favourites to win this game. We’ll be backing them to do just that and win every other game they feature in this season until they show us anything other than perfection.

Prediction: North Melbourne.

Betting tip: Big win little win – North Melbourne 1-39.

Fremantle vs Essendon Prediction

Saturday, November 9, 7:00pm AEDT – Fremantle Oval

The first elimination final of Week 1 of the AFLW Finals sees Fremantle and Essendon go head-to-head, as they both fight for survival.

Both ended the regular season on a high, with Freo getting the better of the Bulldogs and Essendon routing Carlton to ensure their spot in the eight.

The form lines lean towards the home side here, with the Dockers bagging three in a row to end the regular season, while Essendon ended with a true mixed bag, a loss, a draw and a win.

While their 46-point win over struggling Carlton was impressive last week, we think this is where the road ends for Essendon, with fifth placed Freo moving on in a closely fought affair.

Prediction: Fremantle.

Betting tip: Under total match points.

Hawthorn vs Brisbane Lions Prediction

Sunday, November 10, 1:05pm AEDT – IKON Park

The second top four clash of the AFLW Finals Week 1, appears to be the toughest to tip, as two true heavyweights in Hawthorn and Brisbane battle for a place in the Prelims.

They are yet to play each other in 2024, but both boast formidable records this season.

The Lions have won nine so far this season, while Hawthorn have matched table-topper North Melbourne with 10 of the best.

The fact that Hawthorn are slight underdogs, finished higher on the ladder and are at home makes them incredibly appealing from a value perspective.

The Lions’ last loss, which was only a few weeks ago, was in Melbourne and against a far less accomplished side in Geelong who failed to even make the eight this year.

There are more than enough signs pointing to Hawthorn here and we’ll be following them to the land of Hokball.

Prediction: Hawthorn.

Betting tip: Aine McDonagh first goal.

Port Adelaide vs Richmond Prediction

Sunday, November 10, 3:05pm AEDT – Alberton Oval

The last game of Week 1 of the AFLW Finals is a die-or-die clash between Port Adelaide and Richmond at Alberton Oval.

The Tigers have tripped up at the wrong time, winless in their last three to fall to seventh after an otherwise impressive season.

On the other side of the coin the Power are on an absolute tear at the moment after enduring a slow start to the season.

They’ve won their last five in a row after losing four of their first five to start the year. These two sides seem to be passing each other like ships in the night. The main difference being Richmond’s vessel is taking on water fast, while the Power appear to be sailing towards the port that is week two of the AFLW Finals.

Prediction: Port Adelaide.

Betting tip: SGM – Caitlin Wendland and Ashleigh Saint anytime goal scorers.

AFLW 2024 Premiership Odds
