AFLW Tips & Predictions – Finals Week 1

10/11/2023|Nathan Brown|AFL Tips & Predictions

After a chaotic final round of the regular season, the teams competing in week one of the AFLW Finals are locked in.

The minor premiership changed hands just before the finish line, with Melbourne slipping up at home, allowing Adelaide to soar past them into first place.

Elsewhere, Geelong, Essendon and Sydney won the race for the final places in the eight, as St Kilda and Collingwood became the ones who had to miss out on the postseason fun.

This week we say goodbye to two of Gold Coast, Sydney, Geelong, and Essendon. While Adelaide, Brisbane and both Melbourne sides are looking to secure a week off and move straight into the preliminary finals.

Who’s going home and who’s moving on? Our AFLW tips and predictions for week one of the finals are below.

Adelaide vs Brisbane Prediction

Saturday, November 11, 3:05pm AEDT – Norwood Oval

The AFLW finals kick off with Adelaide hosting the side who gifted them the minor premiership – the Brisbane Lions.

Brisbane’s upset win on the road last time out against the Dees sent the minor premiership to the Crows’ nest. While Adelaide are no doubt grateful for the Lions’ philanthropy, don’t expect them to repay the favour here.

The Crows have been arguably the team to beat all season and while the Lions will be full of confidence after knocking off Melbourne on the road, we have to side with the side sitting pretty in first.

Prediction: Adelaide.

Betting tip: Super margin – Adelaide 1-9.

Gold Coast vs Sydney Prediction

Saturday, November 11, 7:15pm AEDT – Heritage Bank Stadium

The first of the two AFWL do-or-die clashes this weekend takes place on the Glitter Strip between the Suns and the Swans.

The Swans just scraped into the finals but will fancy their chances after it was revealed Sun’s young gun Charlie Rowbottom will not feature in their finals campaign due to an ankle injury.

Before her injury, the 20-year-old midfielder led the league in both clearances and contested possessions and is a huge out for the Gold Coast.

They did win last week without her, but for those looking for value this weekend, it could very well lie in a Sydney upset.

Prediction: Sydney.

Betting tip: Line – Sydney (+9.5)

Geelong vs Essendon Prediction

Sunday, November 12, 1:05pm AEDT – GMHBA Stadium

This weekend’s second AFLW elimination final pits Geelong against Essendon at GMHBA Stadium.

The Cats are purring after their 40-point win over Hawthorn last week secured a home final.

The Bombers ended up making the finals despite an up and down final month of the season, with the only real collateral damage from their inconsistency being AFLW tipping comps.

Geelong have the momentum (they’ve won their last two games) and home ground advantage, we’re tipping them to move on to week two of the finals.

Also, keep an eye on Geelong’s Chloe Scheer for your goalscoring wagers, she booted three majors last week against the Hawks.

Prediction: Geelong.

Betting tip: SGM – First goal scorer and most goals – Chloe Scheer.

Melbourne vs North Melbourne Prediction

Sunday, November 12, 3:05pm AEDT – IKON Park

Rounding out week one of the AFLW Finals is a mouthwatering Melbourne derby at IKON Park.

Talk about saving the best for last - second vs third, Melbourne on Melbourne carnage.

The Dees will be slightly rocking after conceding the minor premiership in the final round of the regular season to the Crows and this could be the Roos’ chance to pounce.

They had the perfect tune up game last week, annihilating the hapless Bulldogs 55-9. This could be the ideal time to tip a Blue and White ambush, although it’s important to remember Melbourne have been the team to beat all season.

Last week’s results have perhaps made this one harder to pick than it should be. If the Dees hadn’t been outclassed by Brisbane to the tune of 26 points, they’d have been a lock for us.

Now? Not so much. Value and an underdog? What’s not to like?

Prediction: North Melbourne.

Betting tip: Super Margin – North Melbourne 1-9.

AFLW Premiership Odds
