AFL Players to Watch - Round 17 2026

03/07/2026|Kate McCarthy|AFL Tips & Predictions

Round 17 of the AFL season serves up a full slate of nine matches, with every club back in action and finals positioning tightening up across the board.

Headline clashes include a mouth-watering Grand Final rematch between Geelong and Brisbane, Hawthorn & Melbourne clashing in Tassie and Richmond hosting a red-hot Carlton outfit at the MCG.

There are plenty of players to keep an eye on every week and Round 17 is no different.

Whether you're searching for a ball winner of note or a goal kicking-specialist for your multi, we've got you covered.

For the inside lane on the best AFL bets, check out Kate McCarthy's list of players to watch in Round 17 below.

AFL's Best Players to Watch in Round 17

Patrick Dangerfield - Geelong Cats

Coming off the bye, Patrick Dangerfield looks primed for a heavy workload through the middle against Brisbane.

The veteran has been used in and out of the centre bounce across his last three outings, racking up 30, 22 and 20 disposals in that stretch.

With a fresh set of legs after the break, we think Danger gets back to the top end of that range, and there's still nice value to be had on his disposal line.

Betting tip: Patrick Dangerfield 20+ disposals.

Harley Reid - West Coast Eagles

Optus Stadium has become something of a happy hunting ground for Harley Reid, and he'll get another crack at it against Adelaide.

Across his last five games at the venue, the young gun has averaged 26 disposals, showing just how comfortable he is on home turf.

We expect Reid to be feasting on Crows this weekend and should be able to find plenty of ball.

Betting tip: Harley Reid 26+ disposals.

Jake Waterman - West Coast Eagles

Sticking with the home ground theme, Jake Waterman has been nothing short of clinical in front of goal at Optus Stadium.

The tall forward has kicked three or more goals in five of his last five games at the venue, an extraordinary run of consistency.

Facing an Adelaide defence on the road, we like Waterman to keep that streak alive.

Betting tip: Jake Waterman three+ goals.

Andrew Brayshaw - Fremantle Dockers

Andrew Brayshaw has been in scintillating touch for the ladder-leading Dockers, averaging 28.6 disposals across his last five games.

He saves some of his best footy for GWS in particular, averaging 30.2 disposals in his last five meetings with the Giants.

We think that trend continues in the Nation’s Capital this weekend.

Betting tip: Andrew Brayshaw 28+ disposals.

George Hewett - Carlton Blues

Richmond has conceded more goals to opposition midfielders than any other side in the competition this season, and that plays right into George Hewett's hands.

The classy onballer has kicked one or more goals in five straight games, including a two-goal haul against West Coast last week.

Against a leaky Tigers outfit, we still love the value on offer here.

Betting tip: George Hewett one+ goal.

Luke Parker - North Melbourne Kangaroos

Few players have been more reliable through the midfield this season than Luke Parker.

He's cleared 25.5 disposals in three of his last four outings, a strong sign of the influence he's having on North Melbourne's engine room.

We like him to go over that mark once again against Port Adelaide.

Betting tip: Luke Parker over 25.5 disposals.
