Fast facts

Eight overseas players won the US Open between 2004 and 2014, but the Americans won the tournament in six straight years from 2015 to 2020 before Spaniard Jon Rahm’s 2021 triumph.

Hale Irwin (45 years, 15 days) became the oldest US Open champion when he won the tournament in 1990, while 1911 champion John McDermott (19 years, 315 days) remains the youngest winner.

Curtis Strange (1988 and ‘89) and Brooks Koepka (2017 and ‘18) are the only back-to-back winners of the US Open in the past 70 years.

Tiger Woods’s 2000 success represented the biggest margin of victory at US Open; he won by 15 strokes.

The overall tournament record score is co-held by Rory McIlroy (2011) and Brooks Koepka (2017), who carded -16 in winning their respective maiden majors.
