With a purse of $10 million, The Golden Eagle is one of the richest races in the world, and the second richest in Australia behind The Everest.
Two international visitors have won The Golden Eagle. Japanese star Obamurumai won in 2023 and Lake Forest, from England, followed with a similar brilliant finish to win in 2024.
The fastest time record in a Golden Eagle was set by I’m Thunderstruck, who ran 1:27:90 minutes for the 1500m on a Good 3 track in 2021.
