WHAT IS STATE OF ORIGIN?

Fast facts

Since 2001, just one State of Origin series has finished in a 3–0 clean sweep: Queensland’s 2010 triumph.

Queensland’s Cameron Smith holds the record for most Origin appearances, with 42, while Brad Fittler is NSW’s most capped player, with 31 matches.

Queensland half Johnathan Thurston holds Origin records for most points (220), most goals (99) and most consecutive appearances (36).

NSW's Ryan Girdler set new Origin records for most points in a match (30) and a series (52) during the Blues' dominant 2000 whitewash.

Queensland broke the record for the biggest winning margin in an Origin match in the 2015 decider, obliterating NSW 52–6 at Suncorp Stadium.
