Only two horses have won multiple Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes – the first was Private Talk (1976 and 1979), and the most recent is Testa Rossa (1999 and 2000).
Although three-year-olds often run well in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes because they are usually on the minimum weight, no three-year-old filly has won the race. The most recent three-year-old male to win was Exceed And Excel in 2003.
Only one horse has won a Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and a spring major – Cox Plate, Caulfield Cup or Melbourne Cup – in the same preparation in Melbourne. That was the mare Mannerism, who won in 1992; she went on to win the Caulfield Cup.
