WHEN DOES THE NBL SEASON START?

NBL

Fast facts

Sydney Kings (2003–05) and New Zealand Breakers (2011–13) jointly hold the record for the most consecutive Grand Final series victories, with three each.

NBL legend and all-round nice guy Andrew Gaze holds the mantle for the highest scoring average in a season, with 44.1 in 20 games (1987). He also holds the record for the most individual career points, with 18,908.

St Kilda Saints won the first two NBL titles (1979 and 1980) but folded after the 1991 season.

The most points scored in a game by an individual goes to Al Green with 71 (1984). For a team, that honour goes to Melbourne, who scored 186 points against Wollongong in 1997.

The team with the longest winning streak is Brisbane, who won 21 games on the fly in 2007.

Best bet
Adelaide 36ers
The arrival of Bryce Cotton in Adelaide is impossible not to get excited about.
Best value
Illawarra Hawks
Coming off a wonderful maiden title-winning campaign, the Hawks could go to another level with McGee despite a couple of big subtractions.
Dark horse
Sydney Kings
Success tends to follow Dellavedova and the Kings weren’t far off last season.
