The UFC 256 main event is a Flyweight Championship fight in which both fighters are coming off a win from less than a month ago. Here are The Wolf’s UFC Tips for Sunday.

Ciryl Gane (6-0) vs Junior dos Santos (21-8)

Cyril Gane is the newest prospect in the Heavyweight division and despite only having a record 3-0 at the time, he was called up to the Octagon in August 2019 and has rattled off three impressive victories in a row. Primarily known for his striking power, it shocked most viewers to see him get successive submission victories in his first two fights.

Ex-265lb champion Junior dos Santos is coming to the end of his career and this could be the fight that finally causes him to hang them up. He has lost his last three in a row by knockout and given how suspect his chin is these days, The Wolf is tipping it to happen again.

Gane will be pouring the pressure on early and it should only be a matter of time before he connects with something substantial and finishes the fight.

Deiveson Figueiredo (20-1) vs Brandon Moreno (18-5-1)

In somewhat bizarre circumstances, this event is headlined by a Flyweight title match up in which both competitors fought and won only mere weeks ago at UFC 255.

Figueiredo is quickly showing he can take the fight anywhere. Despite his striking heavy style, he has come up with three submission wins in four fights, none more impressive than his lightning quick Guillotine Choke win over Alex Perez at the aforementioned UFC 255.

Brandon Moreno was equally as impressive in his TKO victory over Brandon Royal, showing very accomplished grappling and scrambling to secure a dominant position and pound out his opponent with only one second left in the first round.

Moreno looks to be a very handy prospect but this fight might have come slightly too soon for him. Given his propensity to grapple, Figueiredo should be looking to keep this fight on the feet, pick his shots and land counters, on his way to a stoppage victory.

Tony Ferguson (25-4) vs Charles Oliveira (29-8)

The winning streak of “El Cucuy” came to a grinding halt at UFC 249 when he ran into the most violent man in the lightweight division, Justin Gaethje. He lost no admirers in that fight, showing a tremendous amount of heart and determination but the fight was ultimately called off in the middle of the final round.

Charles Oliveira is in the best form of his career, winning his last seven fights with none of them going to the judge’s scorecards. Primarily known as a dangerous grappler with nasty chokes, he has shown remarkable improvement in the striking department of late, knocking out both Nik Lentz and Jared Gordon.

This looks a great fight for Ferguson to get back on track. Oliveira is no joke but he may struggle with the frenetic pace and pressure that Ferguson imposes on his opponents. Given this is a 3 round fight, The Wolf is tipping Ferguson to slowly accumulate damage throughout and cruise his way to a decision victory.
