The title has been wrapped up and the relegation battle is over, and after Leicester’s midweek victory over Manchester United, the only thing that is left to be decided over the final two weeks of the season, is the Europa League berth. West Ham currently occupy fifth place with 58 points, however, Liverpool is just one point behind them with a game in hand.
Here are The Wolf’s EPL tips for Matchweek 35.
After dropping a game that they were well in control of against Chelsea, City will be out to finish their season strongly, despite having sealed the title already. Pep Guardiola was firm in his desire to finish strong during the week, and you can expect the champions in waiting to deliver an emphatic response when they take on Newcastle.
Newcastle have been impressive in the last month, winning three of their past five to avoid falling into a relegation battle. City have been the number one ranked attacking team and the number one ranked defending side this season.
With the amount of attacking weapons the league leaders possess, it’s hard to see Newcastle finding a way to contain them. City have been utterly dominant against Newcastle Since 2006. In that time period, Manchester City have a record of 23-2-1 against Newcastle in Premier League matches.
Newcastle have been excellent towards the back end of the season, but Manchester City will bounce back after a disappointing loss last week.
West Ham have thrown away their Champions League dreams in the last few weeks, with three losses from their last four games. Now the goal for the Hammers is to cling on to fifth place and secure a Europa League berth.
This weekend’s clash is a must win for the Hammers who sit just one point ahead of Liverpool, who have a game in hand on West Ham. They come up against a Brighton side that has won just one of its past six games in the Premier League.
An interesting stat coming into this clash is the last four meetings between the two sides has resulted in a draw, with goals a plenty in the matches that included a 3-3 draw and two 2-2 draws.
Although the Hammers have slid in the past few weeks, there’s simply too much on the line to not produce a big performance on Sunday morning. Brighton have secured safety and there’s nothing to gain from them in the final two weeks of the season.
West Ham have been one of the best attacking sides in the Premier League since the beginning of February, if their stars in Jesse Lingard and Michail Antonio can get back in form, the rest of the side will follow. And if the attacking form for the Hammers comes back, there’s no way Brighton can keep up with them. Expect another open and free flowing game from these two sides, but West Ham just have too much quality for Brighton to handle.
