The Wolf is back with another preview for his favourite games in Matchweek 17 of the Hyundai A-League! Check out his two best bets and value bet of the week below.
Not exactly sure what it is about the Western Sydney Wanderers but over the last five years in the Hyundai A-League they have been absolute drawing machines. Over the past five seasons, they have recorded 40 draws, which is by far the most of any club in the A-League and they lead the competition in draws this season with seven through 17 games.
The Wanderers have drawn their last three games in a row and come up against a Roar side that has drawn five of their last eight games. All five of those draws were either 1-1 or 0-0, and the Roar have scored just 19 goals this year and allowed just 16, the fewest of any team in the league. Love the value of a low scoring draw here.
Can the Victory gain some sort of pride back after they were decimated to the tune of six goals in the first Melbourne Derby of the year back in March? I think probably not. The Victory have had their worst year in A-League history to date, currently sitting on the bottom of the table with a 3-2-10 record and just 15 total goals scored through 15 games.
They come up against one of the hottest teams in the league, Melbourne City, who have won seven of their last nine games and are coming off a hard fought 1-1 draw against Sydney that they will be keen to improve on. I have zero problem backing another big Melbourne City win here after seeing what they did to the Victory just four weeks ago.
For value this weekend I love the look of Adelaide United to beat Sydney FC on the road. Sure they are away from home, but Sydney FC haven’t exactly made Leichhardt Oval a fortress this year, and Adelaide United come into the game in terrific form.
The lads from South Australia have won seven of their last nine games and are coming off a brilliant 3-1 win over Macarthur on the weekend. Love the look of Adelaide United double chance as a safer bet at $2.00, but will also be taking them to win for extra value.
