There are just four weeks to go in the 2020-21 Hyundai A-League season and The Wolf is once again hunting value as we launch into another weekend of soccer action. Check out his tips for Matchday 21 below.
At the time of writing, Western United still need to play their mid-week clash against Perth Glory on Thursday night before facing Sydney FC on Saturday afternoon. That mid-week game is the exact reason why The Wolf is betting against them for my best bet this weekend. They were in Melbourne last Thursday night before travelling to Sydney for a clash against the Wanderers on Saturday. Following that, they jumped straight on a plane to Perth for their game against the Glory on Thursday night before having to make their way back to Ballarat on Saturday.
All that travelling has to take its toll here, and Western United are facing a Sydney outfit that will be coming off a full week’s break, after not having played since their 1-1 draw with Newcastle last Saturday. Sydney were 2-0 winners when the two sides faced off earlier in the season and there is still some value about them on Saturday, starting at $1.80 in the WDW market. Absolutely love them to win here.
On form, it wouldn’t have been hard to argue that Adelaide United were the best team in the league through the months of February and March. They were 6-0-2 through those two months and climbed as high as second on the ladder. Since then, however, they have won just one of their last seven games, although four of those clashes have resulted in a draw. They face off against a rampant Melbourne City side on Thursday night, who have all but wrapped up the 2020-21 season premiership.
Melbourne City have lost just one of their last 14 games and sit nine points clear atop the A-League table. They have a 13-2-5 record on the season and although they lost their only clash against Adelaide this season, they will start as extremely firm favourites at home on Thursday night. City have scored 21 goals in their last seven games and The Wolf thinks they keep the scoring spree up here, winning by multiple goals.
Macarthur FC and Melbourne Victory will face off for the 2nd time in just over a week on Friday night, this time back in Campbelltown Stadium. Macarthur are right in the mix of the battle for the top six, sitting in fifth place, tied for points with the 2nd placed Sydney FC and just five points ahead of the 9th placed Wellington Phoenix.
With so much on the line here, The Wolf thinks Macarthur win this one against a Melbourne Victory side that don’t have much left to play for in the 2020-21 season. When the two sides met last week, Macarthur won 2-1 and a similar scoreline is on the cards Friday night.
