Residents in a quiet suburb in Adelaide probably wondered what prompted long and loud cheering from the Bugeja household on Saturday afternoon.
Sportsbet can reveal that the #SBMulti Hall Of Fame has found a second inductee in Jon Bugeja, who turned a 10 cent each-way, nine leg racing multi, into $9,767.
Forget about our own Julian Vallance or SD, because Jon’s effort last Saturday was freakish, picking seven winners and two placings in his selections.
He started the ball rolling at 1.25pm when Persan ($4.50-$1.60) saluted at the Valley.
In the space of an hour, leg two Shaquero ($8.00-$2.45) fell in at Rosehill, Ancestry ($2.80-$1.35) had a walk in the park back at the Valley and Toffee Tongue ($13-$2.60) got the bob in on the line in Sydney.
Jon was at home with his dad Stephen, his brother Sam and a mate – the multi excitement was building.
“My mate called bullshit, so I showed him my bet slip. It really was a bit freaky, but I had a good feeling about all these horses,’’ Jon said.
At Rosehill, Order Of Command ($5.00-$1.50) held on for third to keep the multi alive and Hungry Heart ($3.60-$1.40) added to the total.
Six down and three to go, including the Group 1 Coolmore and All-Star Mile.
Krone ($13-$4.00) gave Jon and his crew few concerns, but things were tense before the big one at the Valley.
“I’ve been on Krone her last three wins, she’s been a great horse for me, but I wasn’t sure about Mugatoo in the All-Star Mile.
“Dad liked Probabeel, but I thought the wide barrier could work against the mare. Thankfully Mugatoo got the job done, after a great ride from Bowman.
“Then it all came down to Think It Over at Rosehill. I was pretty confident because I backed him the previous start when he won at $51.
“We all rode Think It Over out to the line and when he came in second it was unbelievable. I was gob-smacked and we just went off.
“We were going to go out to dinner and party, but I ended up buying some drinks and we stayed home to celebrate. Craziness!’’
Amazingly, the nine-leg multi wasn’t Jon’s only collect for the day. He also scored with another couple of similar looking multis taking his winnings to $19,110 for a $2.12 total outlay.
John now joins our first inductee, Oliver Adrias in the #SBMulti Hall Of Fame and a limited edition, induction cap #2 is in the mail.
