The Wolf’s best bet comes to town after a brilliant debut win at the provincials. Here are Wednesday’s racing tips.

Siege was outstanding on debut at Gosford a month ago. Despite sitting wide without cover for the entire duration, when asked for an effort in the straight she knuckled down and overhauled two next start winners. James Cummings sent her back to the trials since where she was given a quiet time. This race is handy but she looks a cut above.

This is a fairly pedestrian BM64 so the strength of Magnetism’s last start second placing behind Captain Spud stands out. That horse of course won well at Caulfield on Saturday, while the third horse, Miss Gobcain, came out and won impressively at Sandown. Damian Lane rides here and this is a winnable race.

Lina’s Hero has irresistable formlines for a midweek race. The ex-Hong Kong galloper finished third last time behind Yao Dash and Starspangled Rodeo, who both came out and won at Rosehill last Saturday. Third up and with blinkers going back on, the Chris Waller trained gelding should be at peak fitness.

Miletus showed good staying talent last preparation, so for him to resume with a fourth placing over 1400m against handy company at Pakenham is a really positive sign. Getting out to 1728m here looks ideal and the booking of Damian Lane is another pointer to a good run.

Gennady has promised plenty but not delivered to this point of his career but he resumes as a gelding here for the first time which could be the making of him. His recent jumpout at Cranbourne around the likes of Diamond Effort, She Shao Fly and Simply Optimistic was exceptional.
