The Newmarket Handicap is one of the great sprinting races of Australia and has been won by greats of the turf like Black Caviar, Weekend Hussler, Miss Andretti and Takeover Target, just to name a few. Here are The Wolf’s Newmarket Handicap tips.

Boasts a phenomenal record at this track and did enough in the Oakleigh Plate to suggest he is going as well as ever. Might have his work cut out with topweight but an absolute must for exotics.

Perth sprinter who was well and truly outclassed in the Lightning Stakes. Impossible to have off the back of that.

Probably capable of winning a Group 1 on his day but on a wet track and over further. Happy to risk under these conditions.

Got the dead heat in the Oakleigh Plate but she rises 2.5Kg into this stronger race. Weights are hardly the be all and end all in sprints but she will need to have improved out of that. In the mix.

Did win the Danehill Stakes as a three year old so he does have some form down the straight, and he generally runs well fresh. Suspect he will find a few too slick here though.

Very disappointing first up in the Expressway Stakes at Rosehill and this is another level yet. Happy to risk.

Didn’t fire a shot in the Oakleigh Plate. Blinkers going on for the first time may spark some improvement, but they need to.

Has a good record down the straight but more a Group 2 or 3 level horse. Prepared to risk in this grade.

For the third straight time she finished off hard to finish fourth in a Group 1 last start. That seems to be her ceiling at this level. One for the wider Same Race Multis.

Hasn’t fired a shot in his last two and simply making up the numbers here.

Did an excellent job to push fellow West Australian Febergino close here last week but his best form does tend to be at the 1000m trip. Will find them too strong late.

One of the better runs in the Oakleigh Plate as she made ground in restricted room. However, that probably speaks more as to the suspect nature of the Oakleigh Plate form than anything else.

The Wolf has long had a massive opinion of this filly and she was outstanding in the Lightning Stakes, absolutely motoring in the last 200m to run second behind the speed maching Nature Strip. Even better suited out to 1200m and the only thing that will beat her here is bad luck.

Handy straight track performer but in much weaker races than this. Likely to finish nearer last than first.

Much prefer him at 1400m and barrier one is probably the worst draw here.

Closed off well first up in the Eskimo Prince at Randwick but doubt that is the right form for this.

Ran third in the Lightning behind Nature Strip and September Run, and she does get a 2Kg weight swing in her favour here. She also gets barrier 18, which, depending how the track is playing on the day, could be a significant advantage. However, she’s now met September Run three times and her record is 0-3, with neither defeat being particularly close. This is her best chance though.

September Run is a class above this lot and should win her fourth race down the straight in the space of five starts.
