The Wolf’s best bet was super impressive first up in Group 1 company.

Peter Moody threw Glenfiddich in the deep end first up in the Memsie Stakes and he didn’t let his new trainer down, running a terrific third placing behind two stars in Behemoth and Mr Quickie. Back to his own age group and out to what looks his ideal trip, he should take plenty of beating. Look for Luke Nolen to either lead or just sit off Holyfield and be strong late.

Patrick Payne has put Noel Callow on four times this year for three wins and they look a great chance of securing another victory here with Competitor. His last run at Tatura was very good, he just got lost around the home turn and looked a beaten horse before flying late. The four-year-old should benefit from Callow’s vigorous riding style and is drawn to get the right run.

Recommended Price: $4.00

Horses seldom debut more impressively than Freedom Square did a fortnight ago at this track, going straight to the front and despite covering some ground, scoring in almost effortless style. Naturally this race is harder but coming from the top local stable of Paul Messara he looks a really progressive type. He should roll forward again and take all the beating.

Recommended Price: $3.00

Quick Thinker won the ATC Derby in the autumn so the Kiwi has plenty of class about him. He was a bit disappointing first up in the Makybe Diva but he was three wide without cover there so the run can be forgiven. He draws much better here and on his best form would start a short priced favourite. The wetter the better for him.

Pippie is one of the fastest horses in work and in a 1000m race that counts for plenty. She has phenomenal gate speed which should allow her to find the late and get several key rivals out of their comfort zone. The question mark will be the last 100m but it is always better to be the one in front. Wet ground holds no fears for her.

Greysful Glamour brings some top notch Sydney form down with her to Moonee Valley and will take plenty of beating in the last at Moonee Valley. First up she finished just over a length behind Dreamforce in the Tramway Stakes, after having sat on the speed throughout. Her only previous run at this track saw her win by six lengths over the very smart Oceanex. The grey mare should be able to find the front and will take plenty of running down. She likely doesn’t want it worse than soft.
