Here’s a look at Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane quaddies for Saturday! Good luck!
6-Benchmark 78 (1600m)
Best: Ocean Miss – should have won last start. Kid got too far back and then hit dead-ends. Rider upgrade with J-Kah to pilot.
Blue Ocean – won at Caulfield and then was a month between runs at Flemington. Didn’t get a lot of room in the straight, down in class, and placed in heavy.
Tooradin – won two starts since returning from a spell. Placed in heavy and drawn to lead or box-seat.
Savaheat – down in class after even effort at Flemington. Will be better for it, winner in heavy and 3kg claim works.
Numbers: 10, 14, 7, 2.
7-Three-Years-Old Handicap (1600m)
Best: Standoff – no heavy form, but had them covered at the 200m at Flemington and drew away big win. Out to the mile is a plus the way she hit the line.
Seb Song – scored a good win (soft7) then disappointed at Caulfield. Comes into this third-up and is capable of improvement.
Seiners Express – three runs this prep solid and looking for the mile, gets it here and has won in heavy10.
Field of Roses – didn’t look comfortable around Caulfield yet still kept finding to be just behind the placegetters. Good alley and has won in soft.
Numbers: 6, 3, 13, 7.
8-Benchmark 84 (1300m)
Best: Corner Pocket – won five of seven including three this prep. Latest worked from wide out and still found a good kick. Soft track winner.
Sig Positiano – couldn’t stay in touch at Cranbourne in high tempo 1200m, but worked home as well as anything. Rock hard fit likes the heavy.
Defiant Dancer – wide throughout, forced to go early at Caulfield and didn’t shirk behind Biometric. Good 2kg claimer on board and placed in heavy.
King Magnus – won here before a spell. At first-up run got there too early at Flemington and tired late. Fitter and two from three this track.
Numbers: 8, 17, 2, 12.
9-Open Sprint (1000m)
Best: Bless Her – honest mare had a tough run, but was still game at Caulfield in first run since October. Sure to improved and 2-0 in heavy.
Great Again – nice run when fourth in the Wangoom. Had a month freshen and kept ticking over with a jump-out at the Bool. Group 3 placed before a spell and winner in heavy.
Forever Free – bungled the start and then not a lot of luck getting clear at Caulfield when lumped 59kgs in weaker class. Drops 5kgs and won only start in heavy.
Zipping Boy – won last two starts including latest this track. Big rise in class, but well down in the weights and two from two in heavy going.
Numbers: 7, 1, 15, 12.
6-Open Handicap (1600m)
Best: Brutality – savaged the line when got to the outside and finished third to Lina’s Hero here. Up slightly in distance is a plus and loves the cut out of the track.
Order Again – got back and didn’t find clear running until too late when third in the Scone Cup. Kept ticking over with a soft and down in class.
Kirwin’s Lane – had the perfect ride and went on with it to score a hard fought win last start. Drawn to get a nice run again and third-up.
Dealmaker – usually takes a run or two to come to hand. Went back to last early and no threat, but worked home okay behind Lina’s Hero. Extra distance, fitter now and best form in soft going.
Numbers: 11, 2, 7, 4.
7-Quality Sprint (Listed, 1100m)
Best: Fituese – wide throughout at the first run since October so no surprise she tired. Since trialled extremely well in Randwick 1000m and should be ready to produce best.
Ballistic Lover – lumped 58kg for an all the way win at Rosehill this level latest. Did it at both ends, worked hard to lead, ran at high tempo and found plenty in a gritty win.
Wandabaa – slow away and finished second to Adelong last start. Was a month between runs so fitter and expected high tempo will suit her pattern.
Viridine – not disgraced in Group 1 Sangster Stakes at second-up run. Ticked over with a soft Rosehill trial, plenty of weight, but big drop in grade.
Numbers: 8, 14, 7, 1.
8-Benchmark 94 (1300m)
Best: Enchanted Heart – dropped back in distance after Listed win and held ground behind Adelong in tougher company. Down in class, well in with 2kg claim.
Dream Circle – won two starts this time in including this track and distance latest, loves the wet. A 4.5kg weight drop will help with the class rise.
True Detective – drew wide pushed on to lead at here last start and found the 1400m a touch too far. Back to right trip.
Tricky Gal – six weeks between runs and trialled well at Randwick in the lead-up. Form before a break was solid with seconds in G2 and G3 races.
Numbers: 2, 8, 4, 1.
9-Benchmark 78 (1400m)
Best: Canasta – resumed and fought hard for second this track and distance. Can only be fitter, good second-up record and soft track no problem.
Cisco Bay – resuming, first-up winner had two good trial wins wet track shouldn’t dampen chances.
Blondeau – two solid runs from a spell in this grade and after Gosford win gave too much start at Rosehill and just missed. Has won in heavy9 before a break.
Regal Stage – first-up and trials not excited, but has a good first-up record and gets through the going. Has won in tougher company and 3kg claim brings in well.
Numbers: 5, 8, 10, 4.
6-Hinkler Handicap (Listed, 1200m)
Best: Garibaldi – found the 1350m too far at Doomben last start. Back to right trip and races best this track track.
Gee Tee Tee – toughest test, but a lot to like about his Doomben win and he has upside. Has since trialled strongly at the Gold Coast behind King Of Hastings and could have won the heat.
Southern Lad – fitter for two runs from a break and did best work at the end of 1100m at Randwick last start. Up to this level and should be peaking.
Numbers: 9, 11, 5.
7-J.J. Atkins Stakes (Group 1, 1600m)
Best: Converge – has won at the mile and powered home from near last for second to Tiger Of Malay last start. Should be improved off that run and can be closer in the run from a better barrier.
Port Louis – was more than a month between runs and finished hard for third to Tiger Of Malay in the Sires here. Should be powering home again, just needs some luck from the wide alley.
Subterranean – drew wide and was stuck four deep the entire when 8th to Tiger Of Malay. Didn’t shirk the task, was only 4lens adrift and much better served this time.
Tiger Of Malay – no knock on winning form. Got the job done in the Sires and sure to be in the mix again.
Numbers: 2, 5, 3, 1.
8-Stradbroke Handicap (Group 1, 1400m)
Best: Wild Planet – wish he had raced on this track, but his second to Eduardo in the Doomben 10,000 gives every impression he will relish the long run home and step-up to 1400m.
Vega One – loves the track and brilliant last start winner with 59kgs here. Drops 6kgs, good alley, so ticks some boxes.
Subpoenaed – two good runs this prep. Not far away in G1 Coolmore then second in G1 Sangster in Adelaide. Wide gate a concern, but no weight and Waller trained.
Tofane – got too far back in the BRC Sprint and finished second to Emerald Kingdom. Extra distance can work and he comes into this third-up.
Niccanova – track specialist and no luck when wide throughout and 10th to Vega One. It was a run full of merit as he was only beaten 1.9lens.
Numbers: 7, 11, 16, 3, 8.
9-Dane Ripper Stakes (Group 2, 1300m)
Best: Brooklyn Hustle – last start G3 winner in Adelaide. Month between runs and ran a super trial at the Gold Coast so she’s in good order.
Sweet Deal – honest mare won G3 at Hawkesbury and turned in a big run here last start when she flew home from well back. Drawn to get the gun run this time over a slightly longer trip.
Madam Rouge – did her best work late at the end of 1200m behind Exhilarates here last start. Fitter for that and she’s a second-up winner.
Exhilarates – powered home from well back to win here last start, honest mare in form.
Numbers: 10, 6, 3, 9.
