The Wolf’s best comes up in the Tasmanian Oaks. Here are Sunday’s racing tips.

Chequerboard chased home local star Hela in the Strutt Stakes and in that filly’s absence looks exceptionally hard to beat in the 2020 Tasmanian Oaks. The Dabernig/Hayes trained filly got within four lengths of Hela with another four lengths back to Mystique Falcon in third. Top local rider Brendon McCoull takes over and while there is an infusion of talent from the mainland, nothing that warrants particular concern.

Suppression was just a little one paced last start at Pakenham but getting out to 2000m for the first time he looks well suited here at Ballarat. Being by Caulfield Cup winner Mongolian Khan, staying was always going to be his go and from barrier 1 with Damian Lane up, he will get every chance.

It was hard not to be impressed with Dundirtcheap’s recent debut at Yarra Valley. While it wasn’t a strong field, the son of Dundeel circled the field and won running away. He looks a natural stayer and stepping up to 2000m here he should prove very hard to beat.

Sayumi has been racing well in town of late and strikes a winnable race here. The Matt Laurie trained gelding has good early speed and should be able to find the front, and the drop in class should see him go very close.

Confidence Level: 3/5
