This is the big one; four Group 1 races headline a mammoth card at Menangle including the running of the $1,000,000 Miracle Mile. Here are The Wolf’s Saturday harness tips.

Mach Shard put in a very honest effort when first-up for new trainer Belinda McCarthy, finishing only 1.6m behind Wolf Stride in the Group 1 Allied Express Sprint. He gets the benefit on gun driver Luke McCarthy tonight and that is enough for The Wolf to want to be on.

Escalera rattled off some slick sectionals last start over the mile journey at this track, settling four back on the pegs and getting through the narrowest of gaps in the straight to fly home and grab the chocolates by a neck margin. He jumps up to the 2400m trip tonight which shouldn’t pose an issue and from a softer gate, he looks likely to lead and take them all the way.

At his 130th start, Mighty Flying Deal now finds himself in the hands of Jack Trainor and The Wolf is expecting some improvement. He was beaten out of sight when well outclassed against King of Swing last time out but his form previous to that was fair, running 3rd in the Leeton Cup four starts back. This field is much more to his liking and with the expected improvement, this looks a great chance to break through for his first win since July 2020.

This race for the 2yo’s looks a dead set raffle but The Wolf was very impressed with the debut run of Mister Rea. He showed good gate speed at Kilmore to find the front from Barrier 4 and then proceeded to wobble around the track like a drunken sailor, still managing to pull out enough to win by 2.7m. He has trialled since then and if his manners have improved at all, he is a great each-way bet.
