After successfully backing Billie Eilish’s ‘Bad Guy’ to take out the Hottest 100 of 2019, The Buzz is back to take a good hard look at Triple J’s Hottest 100 of the Decade. The countdown covers songs released from 2010 until 2019. So let’s put the volume all the way up to 11 and get cracking.

Outright Winner

Unlike the yearly countdowns that boast a couple of clear front runners, this countdown is incredibly wide open with a plethora of great songs. There are legitimately 8-10 songs that could win this thing with another 4-5 that would shock but not really surprise anyone. Atop that lists sits the $3.50 favourite ‘Somebody I Used to Know’ by Gotye. The 2011 Hottest 100 winner & worldwide smash hit has been one of the favourites since betting opened and is currently projected to finish in the Top 5 by various predictors. The Buzz is happy to fade Gotye and look at some other home-grown options instead.

This countdown gives Triple J voters the chance to right some wrongs from the past (Hoops over King Kunta, Thrift Shop over Little Talks, Riptide over Royals, etc.) & there is no bigger wrong that Innerbloom by RÜFÜS never making the Hottest 100. The 2015 banger was completely snubbed by voters finishing 103rd. Five years later and voters will not make that mistake again. Innerbloom by RÜFÜS (now RÜFÜS DU SOL) will win the Hottest 100 of the Decade.

The Buzz will also have a look at the double chance market to take two other Aussie Artists who could upset Innerbloom on the day in The Less I Know the Better by Tame Impala & Magnolia by Gang of Youths.

Recommended Bet: Innerbloom – RÜFÜS DU SOL ($5.00)

Top 5

Flume has a tremendous track record with Triple J audiences and that was very evident in January when Rushing Back (ft. Vera Blue) stunned audiences by besting both Dance Monkey & Denzel Curry’s Like a Version of Bulls of Parade to finish 2nd to Bad Guy. Flume might be Triple J’s most successful artist of the decade, he’s had a song poll in the Top 100 in seven of the last eight years including 5 separate top 10 finishes. His 2016 winner “Never Be Like You” is his most popular song with over half a billion plays on Spotify. The $1.75 on offer for the Top 5 is a great price and it’s good chance to crack the Top 3 ($2.25) as well.

Recommended Bet: Never Be Like You – Flume (feat. Kai) ($1.75)

Top 10

One of the most egregious decisions in Hottest 100 history was Vance Joy’s ‘Riptide’ finishing one spot ahead of Lorde’s masterpiece ‘Royals’ to win the 2013 countdown. Lorde went on to win multiple Grammys for ‘Royals” & she backed up her critically acclaimed album pure Pure Heroine with another in Melodrama. Lorde’s music has aged tremendously well and played a major role in the style of the next wave of new artists including Billie Eilish. Like Flume, Lorde has an impressive Top 10 strike rate, with three appearances this decade. Look for Lorde to finish in front of Vance Joy and that’ll be in the Top 10.

Recommended Bet: Royals – Lorde ($1.95)

No. Of Kanye West Songs in the Top 100

Love or Hate Kanye West, there is no denying the man has an immense talent. He’s produced a dozen bangers over the past decade before his sojourn into Gospel Music. Runaway is expected to finish at the very pointy end of the countdown and is smoky to win the whole thing ($34) but West should have many more songs in the countdown from a variety of albums. Expect five of Kanye’s best to feature in the Top 100 including Ultralight Beam & Monster.

Recommended Bet: Five Songs ($2.10)
