The Chicago Bulls still have the slimmest of chances of making the play-in tournament with recent acquisition Nikola Vucevic stringing together a series of monster games. The Wolf thinks he’ll do it again when he faces an undersized Toronto Raptors.
Here are The Wolf’s NBA tips for Friday.
Nikola Vucevic is just eating rebounds at the moment for Chicago, and he gets a very nice look against Khem Birch and the Toronto Raptors.
Vucevic has faced the Raptors three times this season where he’s recorded 14, 18 and most recently 7 – but in the most recent encounter Chris Boucher was playing for the Raptors who dragged in 19 rebounds. Boucher won’t play on Friday.
From Vucevic’s last nine games he averages 14.4 rebounds, clearing the 11.5 rebound line in eight of those contests and recording 14+ in seven of them.
Over the last 16 days the Raptors are the fourth easiest team for centres to rebound against 13% above average, and although this could potentially be a blowout in Chicago’s favour it didn’t effect Vucevic’s numbers in their 20+ wins over Boston and Charlotte recently, where he recorded 14 rebounds in 32 and 30 minutes respectively.
The Bulls are still an outside chance of making the play-in tournament, so expect another big game from Vucevic.
Slightly under the radar in his return about five weeks back, but D’Angelo Russell has been pretty good playing in the shooting guard spot alongside Ricky Rubio and Anthony Edwards in the small forward.
He’s still not playing big minutes for the Timberwolves, averaging 27 in the 19 games since his return from injury but it is slightly trending in the right direction at 30 minutes per game from the last ten.
From his 19 games back, he’s played 26+ minutes in nine of those games which includes eight in his last 10. From the games where DLo has played 26+ minutes he’s averages 8.9 assists, clearing the 6.5 assist line in eight of them and recording 8+ assists in seven of them.
He’s up against a Denver team that do a reasonable job restricting point guards from producing assists, but as a result shooting guards pick up the slack on this front producing assists against the Nuggets 12% above average over the last 16 days.
From DLo’s last ten games he’s produced 8+ assists in seven of them, and although the season is well and truly dead and buried for Minnesota he’s making up for lost time after being quite poor for the majority of it.
