Jimmy Butler came alive during the playoffs last season, and as we approach the 2021 playoffs and The Wolf’s expecting his numbers to continue to increase to help the Heat avoid the play-in game.
Here are The Wolf’s NBA tips for Sunday.
The last couple of games from Jimmy Butler has hinted he’s entering playoff mode with the Heat trying to escape the ‘play-in’ zone.
Butler is coming off 29 points and 6 assists against the Spurs off the back of 33 points and 5 assists in Miami’s loss to the Bulls, and he gets a nice matchup against Cleveland who enter this on the second leg of a back to back.
The Cavs are the second easiest team in the NBA for small forwards to score against over the last month at 19% above average, plus also concede assists to the 3-spot 10% above average.
Butler averages 23.3 points and 7 assists from his last 11 games, clearing the 28.5 PA line in six of those 11 – but more importantly in four of his last six with one of the two that didn’t clear landing on 28.
He’s played the Cavs twice this season, the first time scoring 28 points to go with 4 assists while the recent occasion on April 3 he only scored 15 points but had 11 assists to just fall short of the 28.5 PA – but he only took 8 field goal attempts.
The Heat should win this against Cleveland but expect Butler to make sure of it with a big stat-line.
A rare Rockets win combined with the Warriors losing consecutive games has provided some value in this Golden State / Houston clash.
Taking nothing away from the Rockets win over the Bucks, but Giannis was injured in the opening minute which threw Milwaukee a bit – plus Kevin Porter Jr had a game out of the box. With that win Houston has now won just three of their last 18 games with their average losing margin from those 15 losses at 12.9 points – 60% of those losses were by double digits.
Golden State is quite inconsistent, but they can produce blowout wins. Even though they’ve lost the last two games they’ve still won 7 of their last 11 games, and of those seven wins five were by 11+ points.
The Warriors have already played the Rockets twice this season and won easily on both occasions. On April 10 they won by 16 points with Curry scoring 38, while on March 17 they won by 14 points.
The Warriors are still in the play-in game picture, so they’ll be determined to bounce back from two disappointing losses and post a big win.
